Esme found herself in a nightmare, her limbs bound and her mouth gagged as the car sped down the highway from Florence to Rome. She struggled against her restraints, but the man in the black suit paid her no mind. Hours passed, her screams muffled by the cotton ball wedged in her mouth.
When they arrived at a grand mansion in Rome, Esme's heart sank. Guards hoisted her out of the car, her struggles only earning her harsh treatment. Her legs were freed, but her hands remained bound as she was ushered into the opulent mansion.
Inside, she resigned herself to the grim reality of her situation. The man in black led her through the lavish corridors, his grip on her hand unyielding. With a forceful shove, he deposited her into a sprawling room before locking the door behind him.
Alone and overwhelmed, Esme collapsed onto the floor, tears streaming down her face. Questions swirled in her mind, but answers eluded her. Who was this man? What debt did her father owe? How had she ended up here?
Exhausted and desperate, she attempted to free herself from her bindings. But her efforts were in vain, and soon, the weight of fatigue and dehydration overtook her. With a final struggle, she succumbed to unconsciousness, her mind clouded with uncertainty and fear.
