Time was a friend for Jimin, it was what he needed, along with the inclusion and acceptance that came from Jeongguk's packs and those that harbored them. Feelings were not something he could easily erase, still thinking back on all the hardships he had to live through for many years. Harsh experiences were like scars, no longer providing direct pain, but still a reminder of what had transpired.
New memories, better, more gratifying experiences overtook Jimin's life, and it was something he would always be grateful for. It took a lot for him to take up the role of the Grand Alpha's mate, having no choice but to accept what was require of him. It wasn't something he was thrown into without so much as a warning, but he did come across situations that left Jimin feeling very uncertain.
Jeongguk had his hands full with the war taking place at the Northern and Southern borders, and with the number of refugees seeking sanctuary, Jimin was in the same position. Luckily for him, he had Seokjin at his side, with Hoseok bringing up the rear and providing a warm atmosphere that melted Jimin's insecurities away. Being in the presence of other omegas, much like his own, was something that Jimin would never take for granted.
It was amazing how his solitary life would take a turn that had many wolves dragging their fingers along the hem of his furs, whispering pleading words and voicing their respect; it was overwhelming at times. But he knew what he stood for in the eyes of the majority, and even if he was not exactly prepared for what he had to fulfill, Jimin felt like everything came a bit naturally for him.
Nurturing those in need was something he found himself doing quite often, the first several weeks upon his introduction to the packs as the Grand Alpha's mate, consisted of the omega making his rounds among the refugees. Donating all his furs from his previous village, helping the sick, delivering meals among the wolves were just some of the things he found himself doing on the daily.
He hardly talked much before, simply because he was never given a chance to properly socialize; nowadays he held considerably long conversations with many from the villages, coming to know many by their name, where they came from, what their stories were.
But even then, he was always regarded respectfully:
My Omega this...
And.
My Omega that...
Jimin didn't think he would ever get used to such kind and humble attention, attitudes always welcoming and villagers always seeming so happy to see him as he begins his rounds. Honestly, there were times where Jimin found himself dabbing his eyes within the refuge of his hut, and on rare occasions, Jeongguk would be startled in finding him in tears even if they were happy ones.
Because of the situation at the borders, Jeongguk chose to remain with the refugees, providing care and protection along with many other wolves from the Northern Territories. Jimin had yet to travel to the main village of the Northern Territories, where he would settle down with his mate once the tides of the war turn in their favor.
But despite not being able to fully visit his new home, Jimin found himself growing quite attached to the village that showed him tremendous hospitality; found joy in meeting many other wolves from the surrounding territories, even during unfavorable circumstances.
He knew why Jeongguk had to stay, why he had to honor the safety of their territories and packs; how he was risking a war with the Southern Territories simply for supporting the rebellion. As far as Jimin could tell, the Grand Alpha of the Southern Territories had not dared in confronting Jeongguk and his decision to aid former slaves, and the omega wasn't sure if that was even a good thing.
And like Jeongguk, Jimin had a duty to their packs; refused to leave his mate's side upon his suggestion of having the omega take leave first to their destined home. But it didn't matter where Jimin was, Jeongguk was home no matter where the alpha found himself and the omega couldn't turn his back on those seeking his refuge.
