I looked around and saw people screaming and crying for help, I watched in sorrow as they all started to slowly die, one by one. Silent Tears fall down my face, I wasn't able to help them, I wish I could.
Something catches my eye. A half frozen girl has started to sing to my children around me, her voice and hope faint. The sound of people yelling breaks my gaze from the girl, I look towards the noise and see a boat that carries a few men that are screaming out at the people around them. Most of them unable to answer the shouts but the men still continue, hoping and listening for replies.
I look back to the girl to see that she has heard them and is looking at them, hope sparks in her eyes. She shakes her lovers arm that is resting in front of her, his body below his shoulders submerged in the water.
"Wake up" she whispers to him shaking his arm.
"There's a boat" but her whispers go unanswered and unheard.I watch, saddened, as realization starts to creep onto her face, she lets of a silent cry. Tears litter her face, but her face becomes stone cold as she starts to shake his hand as violently as she can; she's in denial.
The boat of men forgotten to her, her lover becoming her first priority. Tears fill my eyes as I watch her futile attempts to wake her lover.
I watch as the once blooming hope in her eyes now starts to diminish, going out faster than flame on a candle. She lays her head gently upon his arm, crying silently, tears running down her face.
She suddenly jerks, to the best of her ability at that moment.
"Come back" A mere whisper flows through the air, the boat continues on it's path ahead. She doesn't give up though and continues to repeat her demand."HELLO, CAN ANYONE HEAR ME?!" I hear the man in the boat yell out, ears eagerly listening for answers. The girl then realises that her whispers are hopeless, but refuses to give up that easily.
She turns to her lover and whispers something into his ear, that not even the wind could pick up. She rips his frozen hand from their raft and places a gentle kiss on it. She then slowly pushes his body back into the ice cold water below, crying silently.
I let out a sob, my children looking at me in sadness.
She looks around at the area around her, looking for something, anything to help her. She spots something.
The girl then proceeds the slip her nearly frozen body into the cold water, swimming to a raft near her. The raft hold a man, a whistle frozen in his mouth. She takes the whistle from the man's mouth and brings it to her mouth. She takes a deep breath and blows into it with all her might, a faint whistle is released. She blows again and again, the whistle getting louder and louder.
I look towards the men in the boat watching and waiting, hoping they hear it. My own hope starting to sink into my chest. A man in the boat tilts his head slightly hearing something. He tells the rest of the men to be quiet. He hears it again and he turns his head in the direction in which it came from. He spots the source of the noise.
I nearly scream in relief, he sees her.
They turn the boat around and head straight for her. She finally stops whistling, relief fills her eyes and she finally relaxes.
She is saved.
