[ CHAPTER THIRTY EIGHT ]
The Midnight Furry Hunt

The cloak was gone which only confirmed what they already knew. Exie felt pretty damn hopeless for a moment before Remus pointed something out.

"They're still going head for the lake at midnight."

Exie looked up, "But they probably both know that we know by now!"

"Yeah but if James really has been planning this for a while he'd have things set up at the location long beforehand," Remus replied, "We all know James, he'd be willing to go ahead anyway. I mean, if the idea of being turned down by the girl he'd fancied for four years didn't stop him, us knowing sure won't - it would be a minor setback at best. In fact, he might even be more satisfied if we're there to watch. You know, witness him make things right ... or something ... I'm not actually too sure what his reasons are ever really."

"You're all going to think I'm crazy... but I reckon maybe we should let him have it," Sirius lay back, "Exie said there was a fire in his eyes when he fought Severus and that was just a small corridor duel, think of what this could do. I trust that whatever he's got planned will be brilliant. Maybe one massive showdown will be the thing he needs to get back to his old self - "

"No, Sirius, that's a horrible plan!" Exie cut in, everyone surprised by her unexpected passion, "We can't just let him go ahead, his plans are poorly thought out when he's in a bad place - just look at last time! Sure it might look cool but he'll get injured or in trouble - "

"Exie, look I know James, he's still my best friend - "

"Sirius, just shut up!" She cried back, "You two always seem to think a fight or some spectacular showdown is the answer. It's never the cure and it won't stop him hurting, just temporarily numb the pain. A massive duel with Severus won't help him any more than the Lily plan or his last fight did. Even if this all goes perfectly he won't feel better until he sorts out what's really troubling him. Plus... James won't be the only one with a big plan. You forget who he's fighting."

Sirius scoffed, "It's just Snivellus, James can take him with his eyes closed. I mean, he's a quicker shot, way better on the broom not to mention his cloak of - "

"And Severus has the ability to create new curses, vastly superior potions knowledge and is far more logical," Remus cut in gravely, "I'd say they're a fairly even match, he'll have things set up too."

Exie nodded, "Severus isn't like James either, he's pretty evil really. I mean just look at what he did to Lily! She threatened to stop him and he drugged her to make sure she couldn't at all costs!"

"She's right," A dark glint was in Remus's eyes, "He won't be thinking like James at all - "

"Wow, point out the obvious," Sirius sniggered.
