[ CHAPTER SIXTEEN ]
Life on the other side of the Door

The gang didn't get away scot-free by a long way: McGonagall saw to that in the form of a lecture after dinner. Two week's detention with Filch felt like nothing however compared to the frosty welcome she received when she returned back to her dorm. Lily, ever true to her promises, was making good of her word.

When Exie came in, Lily, Mary and Marlene were engrossed in deep conversation. Judging by the brief glimpse she got, Lily looked rather upset whilst her two friends seemed to be consoling her, each taking one of the redhead's hands in their own. Yet the moment they entered, all chatter stopped as Mary and Marlene suddenly seemed to be unusually obsessed with Lily's duvet cover. Only Lily continued to look, her nose and eyebrows scrunched up in anger even though her green eyes were now tinged with a bit of red as if she'd been crying mere moments before.

Then she too broke eye contact, rising from the bed before shakily announcing, "I-I think I might go in the shower."

Before Exie could even open her mouth to protest, Lily rushed past her in a mad dash, slamming the door with such force it shook the very foundations of Hogwarts. Except, just like Lily a few weeks earlier, Exie wasn't about to let this one go only this time she was on the other side of the door.

"Lily?" She softly knocked, "Please open up, I just want to explain..."

There was no response yet the water wasn't running yet so unless Lily was sat in there with her hands clamped over her ears (a definite possibility), then Exie was being ignored.

"Lily, please," The sadness made her head a little dizzy so she leant it against the door.

From inside, there was a slight shuffle as if the stubborn redhead had repented, inching just a little closer to the handle. But this was followed by more footsteps before the sound of the shower burst into life. Exie knew her efforts were in vain as she slumped down the door, letting the feeling of hopelessness consume her. She was honestly half-tempted to sit there and wait it out, it was no extra effort to her but something got in her way ... or rather two things: the looming figures of Mary and Marlene standing above. They said nothing but the jabbing point of Marlene towards her bed could only mean to follow her so Exie decided to oblige, hoping that they at least would listen.

The moment they were across the dorm, out of earshot of Lily or their other dorm-mates, Exie softly began to plead her case, "You two have to believe me, I didn't intend to start a fight, I was actually trying to stop it right up until James was getting punched into a pulp. That's why I over went to them ... I went... oh for the love of Merlin, I can't even get my words out - "
