- Your POV -
It was about 6:30 in the morning when I arrived. For 6:30 a.m. in a huge city like San Fransokyo, it was oddly calm. Mianoi is a big city too, and at 6, the highways were stuck with cars already. I could see some people exiting their homes to get to work or a few jogging around, but that was it. A few cars drove past. Then again, it was still fairly dark outside. Stepping out of the cab, I looked up and read the green sign. It said Lucky Cat Café. Huh, it's an... interesting name. Shifting my gaze towards the glass doors and windows, I felt the cold mist stinging my cheeks. I rubbed my hands together.
The cold mist...
My breathing hitched, my throat started to constrict, and tears started to form in the corners of my eyes. Vigorously, I shook them away. They won't do me any good.
A figure in the café caught my eye. In a quick manner, she, I suppose, was bustling around, probably getting ready to open for the day. Most likely, she saw me because she hurried to the door and unlocked it.
She flashed me a pretty smile. "Good morning! We'll open in a bit, but do you need some- oh... wait a sec..." she faltered, realization dawning on her. "(Y/N)! Is that you?"
I nodded, even if I'm not quite sure if she's the one I'm supposed to meet. She gave me a big hug. "You've grown so much!" she cried. I let her hug me, but I didn't hug back. It was sort of awkward.
Quietly, I asked, "Are you Miss Hamada?"
She untangled herself from me, and I got a good look at her. She has auburn hair, in a short, stylish kind of hairstyle; her eyes are very big and green, and she's slightly taller than I am. She seems very nice. "Oh, you don't remember me, do you?" she asked, and answered it right after with a little laugh. "Of course you don't, you were only three at the time."
I just stared at her.
"(Y/N), you're going to call me Aunt Cass, okay?"
"Okay..."
She stared at me, and I blinked back. She moved her hand as if indicating me to say something else.
"Okay... Aunt Cass...," I said. She gave me a small smile.
"I'm sorry about your parents," she said softly.
I forced a small smile and shook my head. "It's okay."
Aunt Cass continued softly. "They were some of my best friends."
"Me too," I whispered, wanting to cry again.
She wrapped her arms around me, her warmth spreading throughout me. The pain in my chest increased, and I started sniffling. I miss my mom and dad's hugs. I want them to be with me. What am I supposed to do in this big, enormous city with people I don't even know? It's either lost every family member I had or they completely despise me.
"There there," Aunt Cass soothed, stroking my hair.
Suddenly, we heard a loud crash and a boyish scream followed.
Aunt Cass smiled. "Hiro's awake."
I looked at her confused.
"He's my nephew," she explained. "He's your age I think, and he graduated early like you. Sorry if he's a little anti-social. His head is always filled with robotics and whatnot. Other than that, I think you two will get along fine."
She led me upstairs... so I'm guessing it's one of those shops where the owner lives on top while the store is on the bottom. We headed up two flights of stairs. Halfway up the second one, I could see that its layout was like a room. Aunt Cass knocked on the wall. "Hiro?"
