I woke up Friday morning at 9.

I wasn't going to school today, I was going to look after Jamie, then we'd both be back to school on Monday.

I was going to let Jamie sleep in today, and let him relax.

I looked at my phone, there was a text from Zach, he sent it at 7 before school.

From Zach: Morning... I'll miss you today at school ☹

To Zach: Well you may not respond to this, cuz your in class, but... morning to you too! And I'll miss you too!

4 seconds after I sent the message, I got a response:

From Zach: Yes I'm in class but we have a supply teacher ☺ Can I come over after school?

To Zach: Of course you can! ☺

From Zach: YAY! :D well I should go, I have to get to my next class, I'll text you at lunch, I promise. Bye.

To Zach: Alright, text you later! ☺

I got ready, and headed downstairs, my parents still weren't home. I was actually worried.

Jamie came down at 12, so I gave him lunch instead.

Zach texted me like he promised at around 1.

He would be coming over at 3, and would be hanging out with me and Jamie.

The rest of the day I just watched TV with Jamie.

Finally 3pm came and Zach came over.

The three of us were watching one of Jamie's favourite shows when Zach said, "Do you two want to go out and get something to eat?"

I looked at Jamie, "Do you want to go?" I asked him.

"Yeah!" he said excitedly.

"Well, then I guess we'd love to," I said.

We ended up going to place for burritos.

After we ate we went to the park and hung out. While Jamie went to play Zach and I sat down on the bench.

"How are things with your parents?" he asked.

"Well, they haven't been home for the past few days," I said, "Is it weird that I'm worried about them?" I asked.

"A bit, yeah," Zach said, "But they are your parents, so it does make sense to be worried about them."

I nodded my head, "It wasn't always like this," I said, "My parents used to love me a lot. My mom never worked. My dad always insisted that she didn't. He made more than enough money, so it was okay. But one day he came home, and told us that he'd lost his job. We were still alright after that, but a year later, we were completely broke. My parents started drinking a lot, and abusing me, and here I am a year later."

"Wow," he said.

"Yeah well, what can you do," I said, "What I hate the most is whenever they do hit me and Jamie's around... he looks terrified. I can't look at him at those times."

Just then Jamie came running up to us.

The three of us took a walk around until it was dark.

At 10 we headed home.

Zach was going to drop us off.

When we got on our street, there were flashing lights and sirens from police cars, ambulances, and fire trucks.

I looked closer and saw that they were surrounding our house
