I woke up to the sound of my mother knocking on my door. "What??" I yelled half awake and half asleep. "El wake up!" my mother yelled from the other side of the door. shit.....school. i stood up and ran out the door and passed my mother, Joyce. I ran into the bathroom, surprised at the fact Will wasn't in the bathroom. I locked the door and brushed my hair out. It became straight with a sleek center part. I put a headband on to finish the hair style. my outfit was short shorts with a halter top. I walk out of the bathroom and ran down the stairs. Will was eating cereal as fast as he could. "I will be home late tonight." Joyce hollered as she walked out of the kitchen and to the front door. Sometimes Joyce would be gone of months. She was known as a groupie. She would tag long with bands for quite some time until she feels like coming home. I know she loves us, and I can't really blame her since she's 30 and pretty. She adopted Will and I at the age of five. She wanted to be a normal mom, but she changed within the past 11 years. Will and I are not related, but we've been friends since we were in the foster home. Joyce said her goodbyes and left us with fifty dollars. I stood by the living room window watching her pull out of the drive way. I turned to will and walked to our house phone. I dialed my boss before leaving. I had to let him know about being late for work after school.
"Do you think she cares?" Will asked as we walked our bikes together. "Sure she does." I replied. he gave a small shrugged and we met with our other friends. Mike, Lucas, and Dustin. They're pretty cool, but it's weird being the only girl. "Your mom left again?" Lucas asked. I have him a small nod. "She said she'll be back tonight though." I told him. "She's said that before." Will said trying to make her out to be the bad guy. I rolled my eyes and kept riding on my bike. We made it to school grounds and left our bikes at the bike rack. The boys were in front of me. They were talking about girls like every teenage boy at their rotten school. Students were already entering the school when we arrived.
I parted ways with the boys to go to homeroom. It was the same thing every day. Sit here for a good thirty minutes, then go to 1st, then 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and finally 7th. 7th was different today. They we're getting new seats. finally!! I kept thinking. I looked at the chalkboard to see who I sat next to. Maxine.... Mayfield? Who the hell was that? I asked myself. I seriously had no clue. I tried to look for unfamiliar faces, but I barely knew anyone in this class. "Eleven Byers?" I heard a soft voice from the left of me. I looked at this beautiful red head next to me. She was wearing the basic flare jeans with a peasant top. "Hi I'm Eleven. You can call me El." I told her. "Eleven... What a unique name. I'm Maxine you can call me Max." The Stranger replied with an angelic voice.
