"No, Rose, not the white ones, I said the colored ones." The Doctor told Rose.
She rolled her eyes without him seeing, "Does it really matter, Doctor? They're just lights." She said.
It was one week before Christmas Day, and Rose and The Doctor were working on decorating their eight foot Christmas tree that stood in one corner of the living room in their flat. The Doctor stood on a tall, unstable-looking ladder that was placed near the Christmas tree and tried to untangle the nightmare of the tree's Christmas lights.
"Just lights?!" He repeated, "Rose Tyler, I'm not even from this planet, and I am having more fun than you."
"I am having fun!" she insisted. He raised an eyebrow and shot a look of disbelief at her.
"Okay, well, I have done this a lot of times and it got to be frustrating." She said, as she turned her back to pull out another set of lights from a box. He shook his head and a smile appeared on his face as he began wrapping the string of lights around the top of the tree and slowly moved down.
"I especially love to do this with you," She said with her back still turned, "I didn't get the chance....to do this with my Doctor..." she said.
The Doctor stopped what he was doing and turned to face her. "I know," He responded, "But, Rose..."
She didn't respond. He put the jumble of lights on the ladder and stepped off it and walked up behind her. He gently took hold of her hand and turned her to face him and he softly put his hands on her shoulders. "Rose," He began, "I know it's a big change, but look at me, I am The Doctor. Your Doctor." He said in a serious manor.
"I know, I'm sorry, it's just hard to get used to..." She trailed off.
It had only been six months after what happened at Bad Wolf Bay and with the original Doctor leaving her to guide and care for this half-human, half-Time Lord. And although she sees him every day, she still feels like she's missing something, like she's lost and alone.
He rubbed her arm and then pulled her into a warm and tight hug. Even though she knew he was a whole other man, his hugs definitely felt like the ones he would always give her. She loved his hugs. They made her feel warm, safe, and secure. He released her and they gazed into each other's eyes and he then kissed her forehead. She smiled at the soft kiss.
"I may be half-human, but I'm still the man who loves bananas, wears a tight suit, and has crazy hair," He went on, "And I'm still the man who loves you unconditionally."
She smiles a wide smile and she bites her lip and stares up at him.
"Right, now, let's get these lights up." He says as he turns and steps on the ladder again. He continues wrapping the lights around the tree, and she watches his steady hands.
"By the way," She says while looking at him, "I got you something special."
"Oh, really?" He said without taking his eyes off of what he was doing, but still giving his eyebrows a little wiggle.
She picked up a little, brown box with a bright red ribbon that was sitting on the coffee table, and she held it out to The Doctor. His eyes widened at the sight and he carefully stepped off the ladder and took the box from her hand. He tugged on the ribbon to make it loose and let it fall to the ground. He opened the box and unwrapped an object from the tissue paper and lifted the object in the air. It was a clock Christmas tree ornament.
She pressed her lips together, but still they formed a smile. "It's your first ornament! Do you like it?" She beamed.
Honestly, he didn't know what to do with it. "What's it for?" He asked.
"Oh my goodness, Doctor, you hang it on the tree!"
"Humans are a strange species." He says, as he shakes his head while still examining the clock.
"Oi! Watch it!"
He shot her a smirk.
"Well, are you going to hang it on the tree?" She asked.
He turned on his heels to face the tree and placed the ornament on one of the higher branches.
"I love it, Rose."
"I knew you would."
He embraced her into his arms and squeezed her tightly.

When they were finished decorating the tree, they turned off all the lights except for the lights on the tree and it illuminated the room. They sat down on the sofa with each their own cup of hot cocoa with some cinnamon on top. She sat as close as she could to him and propped her legs onto his.
They stayed silent and sipped on the cocoa for a while until the silence was broken.
"I think we did a fantastic job." He says, while eyeing their beautiful tree.
"I think so too." She agrees before taking another sip of her cocoa.
He turned to look at her and slowly began to run his fingers through her gorgeous blonde hair and twisted a ringlet of hair on his finger.
"You're so beautiful." He says.
She doesn't know why, but she blushes and she can feel the heat in her cheeks. She doesn't say anything; she just stares into his brown eyes.
"I love you, Rose Tyler." He says finally.
"I love you too, Doctor."
He caressed her cheek and he pulled her in, and their lips touched.
When he pulled back, he couldn't help but chuckle.
"What?" She asked.
"Your lips taste like chocolate."
She giggles and asks, "Is that a good thing?"
He nods his head.
