After the battle with Viren at the Storm Spire, Callum and Rayla developed a habit of sleeping in the same bed. It was a completely innocent arrangement - their relationship wasn't exactly at that stage yet - but it helped them both deal with lingering nightmares from the final confrontation with Viren and gave them a chance to spend time together after being apart all day. Callum trained all day with Ibis and Rayla was busy with her duties in the Dragonguard.
Eventually, they returned to Katolis for a visit. As Phoe-Phoe began the descent towards the palace, Callum said, 'So, uh... I think Ez is giving us separate bedrooms.'
'What's the problem?' Rayla poked him in the side, grinning. 'I'll just sneak into your room as soon as he's gone.'
'Wouldn't it be easier just to stay put?'
'Right, because that works so well,' she remarked dryly. 'A few months ago we barely managed a few hours of uninterrupted sleep and now we're used to sleeping together every night we probably won't even get through one night.'
'That is true,' agreed Callum.
'Besides, you know you love it too much,' she smirked. 'If I didn't know better I'd say I woke up with an octopus in the bed every morning!'
'Hmm, says the girl who can't resist waking me with kisses every morning,' he teased back.
She laughed and proceeded to do just that.

Later that night, after a day spent with Ezran and Soren talking about everything they'd missed in each other's lives over the last few months and stealing jelly tarts despite the baker allowing them to take them whenever they wanted, Callum lay in bed waiting for Rayla. She slipped in without a sound as only a Moonshadow elf could, and curled up under the covers with him.
'Hi,' he whispered, suddenly shy. Despite the months they'd spent sharing beds like this, there was something oddly intimate about doing it in his childhood bedroom in an opulent palace.
'Hi there,' she laughed softly. She rolled towards him and he put an arm around her. She looked up at him. Her face was serious. 'Was there a specific reason you didn't want to share a room during the visit?'
He sighed. 'It's not really a big deal, it's just that Soren would tease us forever and Ezran might come in when he wakes up in the morning, which could be awkward, especially since we haven't had the sandwiches talk yet-'
'Sandwiches talk?'
Callum's cheeks went red. 'Let's talk about that later. The point is, I was just very aware of that possibility.'
Rayla hummed thoughtfully. 'Valid point, but I can wake up early and sneak out long before he arrives and nobody cares what Soren thinks anyway.'
'No, you don't have to- I mean-'
'Callum. It's fine. I'm not exactly trying to traumatise your little brother anytime soon. Now tell me about this sandwiches talk.'
He blushed scarlet and ducked under the covers.
'It's embarrassing, then?' He could hear the smirk in her voice.
'It's a huge misunderstanding?'
'Not gonna work. Just tell me!'
He sighed, knowing there was no way he'd get out of this one. 'Well... you know back at the very very beginning of our journey with Zym, when he was still an egg?'
'Yes...?'
'And there was this one morning you were out somewhere and Ezran woke me up asking what I was dreaming about because apparently I was talking in my sleep.'
