The last bell rang and everyone started packing up their things to go home.
"Asia, quick before we go, name all of Henry VIII's wives."
"Huh?", she looked at the teacher after snapping out of her day dream,
"The Eiffel Tower in Paris and the Big Ben in London?" She responded, puzzled.
The whole room burst into laughter as Asia's cheeks quickly reddened as a result of the embarrassment. I almost felt bad for her.
"No Asia, no tourist attraction questions today. I guess I'll be seeing you in detention. Don't be late!"
With that Mr Williams left the room, papers flying once again.
"Damn."
"Tough luck Asia, hope you get through it."
"Damn.", she said again.
The silly girl should've known better than to trust my word and fall for my, might I say awesome, photoshopping skills so she had nobody to blame for her lack of concentration but herself.
We left class and started talking ss walking down the hallway to our lockers, it turned out that Asia really wasn't that bad once you get to know her, and it felt kinda deceptive to continue to lie, so I did the right thing and told her about the sham picture."I can't believe you did that."
"I know, and I'm so, so sorry that I-"
"The skills it must've required to do that...I couldn't tell it was fake!"
She said in disbelief. I couldn't believe that she hadn't flipped in a bad way and was being so cool about it. As I pondered her surprising response to my antics, Zeke showed up, with his best friend and my crush Brandon in tow.
"I'm gonna talk to him about Morgan, I'll be right back."
"Okay, see ya."
I watched her disappeared with Zeke around the corner and turned to look at Brandon.
"So. You finally come to apologise after being such a dick at formal?"
"No way", he scoffed,
"I was on my way to meet Marissa at her locker and since Zeke was also going this way, we decided to go together."
"Hm..guess you still owe me an apology."
He guffawed,
"Right, and the day you get it from me is the day that you and I become a thing!" He burst into laughter and eventually the sound became so annoying that I had to just turn and leave, forget patience. I started making my way to my own locker when I noticed that the laces for one of my vans were undone and bent down to redo them before standing up. And bumping into a random person who's face I could see as their white blonde hair had fallen forward and covered their face as their head was bent in pain. I had a terrible knack for being clumsy, which you could probably tell by now.
"Ow!"
"I'm sorry but dude, you shoulda seen me doing up my laces!"
"How?! You were on the damn floor, where I wasn't looking!"
"Then next time look"
"Ugh! I've been here one day and I already hate this stupid school!"
Attitude much.
"You should probably relax hunny, at this school, we take it easy."
She scowled at me,
"Don't call me hunny ever again. My name is Gabby. As in Gabriella, in case you're too dumb to get it."
"Alright smartass, I got it so chill out."
"The Martinez family never 'chill out'. We do the opposite. Nobody ever won wars by being 'chill'."
"You know, your family sounds a lot like another Martinez family I used to know when I was younger, they were my neighbors and they scared me but they were good people. They actually had a little girl called Gabby too, she was my best friend in middle school and she had a super cute older brother named Juanpa. And her sister Anita was kinda cute too actually."
"Juanpa? Anita? You know my siblings? What are you, some kinda stalker freak."
"Me? A stalker? Ask around, not one person will think that the words 'stalker' and 'Santana Wells' belong together.
"No way is that your name! Wells?! Do you remember me?!"
"Uh.."
" I'm the Gabby Martinez you're thinking of! I'm the one who used to be your best friend and neighbor up until middle school!"
"Holy crap, Martinez?! Where have you been this whole time?!"
"Where you left me! It was you who upped and left and came here. You never looked back and never contacted me again!"
"I had to! My mom made me cut ties with all of my friends from back home because she wanted to let go of the past completely. I cried and begged for her to let me call you every day for this first 3 months we were here. Anyway how did you end up here too?"
"Well my parents divorced and my mom wanted to move closer to Abuela again. Look Wells, it's been amazing catching up with you but I gotta go catch the bus. Here's my number, call me up!"
After giving me her digits we went our separate ways with the promise of me calling her later that night.
