Y/N groaned as the blistering heat of her room got the better of her. She laid miserably on her bed desperately trying trying to feel the air from her small fan. The breezes just left like hot air hitting her face. She thought distracting herself from the fact that the air was hot would make her feel it less.

Y/N finally sat up and reached for the fan "I'm tired of this crap." she mumbled then pressed the button turning it off. Y/N hopped off her bed and walked over to her dresser grabbing her wallet. She scavenged through it looking for specifically a five dollar bill. She's been staying inside for the past 5 days and was starting to go crazy. She told herself that if she didn't get out now, she was probably going to smash her head against the fan, as violent as that sounds.

Once she finally found what she was lookin for, Y/N grabbed a book sitting on her dresser that she's been reading for a couple days now, and walked downstairs. As soon as she made it half way down the stairs, she could hear her parents arguing. This was just normal at this point. She just ignored them and put her hand in the door knob of the front door "Mom, Dad, and heading out to Starcourt Mall! I'll be back later!" She shouted over to them not taking a moment to give their arguing the time of day.

"Ugh.." her mother groaned and stepped away from her father "Alright sweetie, just make sure you get make at a reasonable time. Travel safe." She stated walking over to Y/N and giving her a kiss on the forehead. Y/N smiled and walked out the door. Her backpack was perfectly placed on her back as she got on her bike and petaled away.

On her way to the mall Y/N just hoped nothing strange happened while she was at the mall. Just yesterday the power went out throughout the whole town for a good 4 minutes. It was out of nowhere but it came back eventually.

Once Y/N made it to the mall she placed her bike with everyone else's and headed straight towards Scoops Ahoy. She went to the counter and dinged the bell. A girl with short hair that went from brown to light blonde turned around and looked at Y/N. "Steve~! Look who's here again after disappearing for 5 days." the girl said sarcastically. Steve opens the window from behind the counter that reveals the back kitchen, the peeks his head out "Oh really?" Steve replied in the same tone as Robin.

Ever since summer started Y/N has been hanging around Starcourt by herself since again, her 'friends' always ditch her. Steve and Robin just accepted the fact she was going to be around for months. "What would you like?" Robin asked Y/N picking up the ice cream scooper. "Uhh Vanilla please." (Just going with vanilla bc it's a classic) Y/N said smiling. Robin got Y/N one scoop of vanilla ice cream and gave Y/N back her change once she paid. "Thanks." Y/N said then walked to an empty seat.

The opened her book as she licked her ice cream. She was caught up in her book when someone took a seat across from her. Y/N looked up from her bed to see Steve sitting there. She closed the book "yeeessss?..." she asked him dragging out the word. Steve looked around then cleared his throat "So, do you know what you're doing later?" Steve asked as Y/N continued to enjoy her ice cream. Y/N thought for a moment "I'm probably just going to go on a walk and sit outside to read." Y/N confirmed. Steve groaned to himself at the response "Really? Read? That's all you do." He adjusted himself in the seat "Even in summer you're buzz-kill." Steve joked. Y/N playfully rolled her eyes.

Steve was kind of like an older brother to Y/N, so they would always make jokes. Steve took a moment to think "Well, I know a group of kids your age who might like to hangout with you." Steve offered. Y/N nearly finished her ice cream cone and hesitated thinking about what he said "You mean those kids you're always sneaking through the building so they can getting into the movies?" Y/N asked with a skeptical look. Steve scoffed "Yup, those kids." Steve confirmed. Y/N chuckled for a moment then picked up her book "I don't know....I'll think about it." She said and waved to Steve as she got up and left the store.

Y/N made her way back outside to her bike. She planned to bike over to a hill and climb up it then sit down and continue to read there. Y/N did this normally. It was always nice and peaceful up there. Plus she got a nice view of the town and an even more beautiful view of the sunset.

Y/N bikes along the sidewalks, past people having picnics, playing with their kids, and some other people on their bikes. Although it sucked that Y/N didn't have anyone to hangout with during the summer, she didn't think being along sometimes was a bad thing.

Y/N finally got to the hill and got off her bike getting ready to climb up the steep hill. Just after a few steps, Y/N regretted forgetting her water at home. The heat was nearly unbearable, but not enough to get Y/N to stop just as she got far enough.

Nearly 2 hours later she finished where she wanted. She let out a big breath and threw herself on the ground needing to breathe. Once she regained herself, she opened her book back up to the page she left off on, glancing up here and there to she the view that she adored.

Y/N got so distracted in her book she hadn't realized hours passed. Before she knew it, sunset had passed but it wasn't too dark that she couldn't see. As Y/N got up and stretched she heard voices in the distance.

"I'm obviously perfect and Dustin's obviously lying." The voice of a girl said "Come on Don Juan." (Fun fact: To be a Don Juan means to be a great lover or seducer of women.)

"Where are you going?" Another voice said. Y/N walked towards the voices, just being curious and nosey. She saw a girl with red hair losing hands with a boy and walked away from something that looks like a radio tower.

"Where are you going?" A boy behind them shouted after them. "Home." The girl simply replied as her and the boy walked down the hill hand and hand. The boy who shouted after them stood there for a moment as another boy who was sitting on the grass got up "Well...guess it's just you and me, Byers." he stated. The boy he was speaking to turned to him "Um... it's late. Sorry. Maybe tomorrow we can play D&D." he said in a hopeful voice "Or something fun. Like we used to?" He asked. The other boy hesitated "Yeah..sure."

"Welcome home." The other boy said before leaving him on the hill. The boy stood there in silence alone. Y/N usually didn't talk to people out of nowhere but she decided in her head, this guy might need some company. She walked over to the boy and got a better sight of his curly hair "Hey!" She shouted over to him getting his attention.

The boy darted his head in Y/N's direction "Oh um....hi?" the boy said in a confused tone. Y/N stood across from him "I'm sorry about your friends ditching you." Y/N said with a small smile trying to be friendly "It happens to me here to there." She stated. The boy chuckled lightly and looked down "It's alright. It just kinda sucks since today is my first day back home from summer camp." The boy explained to Y/N. He then held his hand out to her "I'm Dustin." the curly headed boy stated. Y/N smiled and happily shook his hand "I'm Y/N" she replied.

Suddenly the two heard something that sounded distorted. Dustin looked down at the small speaker sitting on the ground and automatically sat down on the grass and accidentally falling over trying to reach for it. "Shit" he mumbled to himself. Y/N was confused but still sat beside him. He picked up the tiny speaker and pressed a button, starting to speak into it.

"Suzie? Suzie, is that you?" Dustin said frantically. 'Suzie?' Y/N spoke to herself confused. Instead of a girl responding, a man's voice came out of the speaker. Dustin and Y/N both stayed silent listening to the man. Dustin increased the volume so we could hear better.

Y/N looked to Dustin with widened eyes. "That sounds like Russian!" she confirmed. Dustin took another minute to listen then agreed. " this is awesome! We have to tell some about this!" Dustin exclaimed in excitement. Y/N smiled and nodded. They both thought about it for a second "We could show my friend Steve-" Y/N said but was cut off by Dustin "Wait. Steve? As in Steve Harrington?" He asked for clarification. Y/N looked at him confused then nodded. Dustin chuckled "I know him! I was about to suggest Steve too!" Dustin exclaimed.

"Great!" Y/N smiled. "Meet me in front of the mall at 10Am tomorrow?" Y/N asked getting up and brushing her clothes off. Dustin nodded "Yeah sure! I'll meet you there." He confirmed. Y/N waved to Dustin and was about to walk off before she stopped and turned around "By the way. Welcome back Dustin."
