A "Normal" Day At School

All I remember was walking to the canteen with my friends and now I'm seated on the floor with them beside me with my dark brown side swept bangs blocking half my view of the dark room we're seated in. My shoulder-length hair tickles my back. A small mutter slips out of my wide lips, "what did we do to be in this situation?"

I lower my black eyes to the floor and think back to what we were doing before this crisis happened.

I was making my way to the canteen after my favourite class, music class as I had my hands buried in my skirt pockets. My friends, Anistasia, Mahanasa and Alexa run up to me. I stop to turn around and face them. Maha stops beside me and pushes her loose brown hair that has escaped from her tied ponytail as a grumble escapes her thin lips that formed a frustrated frown since her eyebrows were sliding down to her upturned nose.

"Scar, your hair is 'very neat'" Mahanasa says to me sarcastically.

"What do you mean, Maha? My hair is veeeery neat" I joke back.

Our laughter was interrupted by Anistasia's normal scolding for me to get my hands out of my pockets. "Scar, getcha hands out of your pockets!" she exclaimed.

"And why's that?" I asked looking at her. She's slightly shorter than me. And as always there's no reason for me to get my hand out of my pockets.

I reached out my hand and pat her head, shuffling her neat black hair. Her hair was long until her waist which she would always tie into braids to make it look shorter.

"I swear I'll flipping kill you" she said annoyed. She didn't like it whenever I pat her head. But I didn't care, despite the amount of times she hit me for doing that.

"Are you sure you'll kill me, Ani?" I chuckled.

"HMPH" Ani admitted her defeat.

I turned my head to Alexa who was talking to Maha. Alexa was slightly taller than an average 6-year-old. She talks like one too. She's irritating at times but she's also the light in our small group.

Ani wraps her arm around Maha's shoulder and Maha does the same. They walk off to the canteen as I am left with Alexa and my boiling jealousy. Alexa adjusts her headband that held her bangs back. She adjusts her hair at the back that didn't even pass her neck just for a joke. We catch up to Ani and Maha.

It's always a challenge to reach the canteen. Students will be pushing their way through while some will be running and knocking into people as the teachers will be shouting to get everyone in line.

"Is it just me or is the place more noisy?" I stated.

"It is, it's really noisy today" Ani replied. We both have sensitive ears so it wasn't much of a guess.

Just then... One of a student from Year 5 just collapsed. But she didn't just collapse. Blood slowly spills from her skull. Me and my friends froze as the teachers assured the students out of the school.
