The air was thick with tension as Han and Serenei, harboring a secret plan to escape the looming danger, faced the approaching Yakuza. The news of Takashi's grandfather's arrival heightened the urgency of their situation. Neela confirmed the leader's presence, prompting Serenei to suggest immediate packing. However, time slipped away, and the impending confrontation was upon them.
Neela approached the garage while they were working on a car. Serenei nudged Sean to go talk to her after greeting her with a smile. But Neela's expression held no happiness and her presence further alarmed Han.
It wasn't that tough to connect the dots. If DK's grandfather was in the city, it meant they were looking over numbers together, and if they hadn't figured it out by now, they were just about to.
Serenei silently approached each and every one of her friends, telling them to pack up and go home. If something was about to happen she wasn't going to let her friends cross their paths with the enemy. They were all confused and looked over at Han who was anchored deeply in his mind. They chose not to ask.
A roar of engines was heard as a few cars approached, Serenei and Han, hand in hand, cautiously stepped forward. The girl ushered for everyone to leave.
DK swiftly laid hands on Han, expressing his betrayal, causing Serenei's hand to part. She took a step back, making eye contact with her brother, to whom she shook her head to head toward the exit. DK noticing the motion, grabbed her chin and shoved her at the car next to them. Sean and Neela hastily took a step forward but were stopped by the Yakuza members.
"Yo! I vouched for you! Put my reputation on the line for you! We were partners! You think you can keep your side deals from me?" DK accused, waving a gun in front of Han. The latter instinctively moved himself to stand in front of his lover.
"Come on. We ain't in the Boy Scouts. This is what we do," Han retorted, creating tension in the air.
"Takashi!" Neela walked down the stairs with teary eyes. Takashi turned the gun toward Han, escalating the situation. Serenei's teary eyes were fuming, clutching her chin. Her mind would not stop racing. What could she do to reduce this?
"What about now? Hm? Is this what we do?" Takashi said, waving the gun in front of his face.
"Man, you need me," Han said back. Serenei was thinking of ways to intervene without someone dying.
"You'd still be shaking down teahouses for chump change if it wasn't for me" Han continued. Serenei nodded to Twinkie and the others to take off. Takashi's gun cocked at her motion, moving onto her. Han and Serenei both tensed.
Twinkie pulled the garage doors instead of taking off, creating a distraction. The door dropped on top of someone's car. Everyone ran to their ride, while Han and Takashi engaged in a fistfight, with Han shoving the gun out of his hands. Sean punched Morimoto in the face and ushered Neela to get in the Evo.
"Run!" Han said breathlessly.
They ran up the metal stairs, toward the front entrance where the car would sit waiting for them. Han panted, following her. Serenei ran to the car, frantically searching for the keys, only for Han to catch up to her with keys in hand. When DK's minions reached them, they had already managed to take off.
"Han, be honest. Are we about to die?" she buckled herself. Her eyes frantically searched and looked for the enemy, and just as she hoped they had lost them, she could see the familiar car turn a corner and follow after them. Sean, Neela, Takashi, and Morimoto.
"Maybe," he said back, craning his neck around to look in the rearview mirror. After successfully drifting their way out of the compound lot they reached the main street. To the onlookers, it might've looked as if a race was happening.
They turned into a tunnel, which appeared to be extremely crowded. They weaved in between cars, causing a lot of them to crash. While Sean, Neela, and Morimoto stayed behind to continue the battle between themselves, Serenei, Han, and Takashi took off further. Morimoto crashed and the Red Evo was back to being in front of DK.
"How are you so calm about this?" she said calmly, tears streaming down her face.
"Because we've got this darling," he said, shifting gears.
"And if we don't?" she asked, this situation more believable than the positive one.
"At least we'll be together," he said, for a swift second looking into her eyes.
"I love you," he said sincerely.
"I love you," she said back, looking at him.
As they approached a critical moment, she added a touch of humor to their dire situation.
"You know, if we don't die, this will be a very cheesy moment." to which Han grinned. But wishing for life was out of their hands now. Only fate would decide.
Han took a look into the rearview mirror and Serenei looked at it too. He slowed down, letting the Evo escape, while Takashi rammed into the back of their car.
Neela tried to reason with Sean, highlighting the love and help he was receiving from his friends.
"They're helping you because they love you. If you stop now, everyone will go down," Neela pleaded.
"They're on a fucking suicide mission," Sean grumbled, torn between the fear of losing Han and Serenei.
The scene escalated as the cars approached a crowd of people, who fortunately scattered to the sides, still mistaking it for a street race. Serenei closed her eyes as they drifted thought the intersection, only opening them when they were through. They continued this dance with Takashi for what felt like forever
Takashi, drifting in front of them, pulled out a gun and started shooting.
"Get down!" Serenei shouted, and they drifted by him, but both turned to look back. Suddenly, another car collided with them, flipping their vehicle.
In the midst of the shattered glass, Han managed to wrap his palm with Serenei's. Both of them were enveloped in pain and met with shallow breaths while being compressed to the ground.
"I'm sorry," he uttered, squeezing her hand. They could both smell something burning and they knew what was about to happen. There was no one coming to save them now.
In a matter of seconds that felt like an eternity, the car exploded, and Sean and Neela watched their souls fade away.
