I arrived 10 minutes early to my new job at Smith's publishers.
As I walk into the big sleek building, a mix of excitement and nervousness overtakes me.
The butterflies in my stomach start going crazy as I walk through the lobby to the front desk.
"Hi. I'm Betty Cooper. It's my first day here." I say to the receptionist.
She is wearing a short red dress with a deep v neckline that doesn't leave much to the imagination. She has piercing blue eyes and a short black bob.
I have to admit, she's pretty.
"Well hello Miss Cooper, Mr Smith will be right out to show you to your new office." She said with a bit too much fake excitement.
"Oh okay, thank you Miss..?" I said, not knowing her last name.
"Grey. Leah Grey." She said smiling.
I smile and take a seat on the dark blue waiting chairs.
A few minutes later a tall and muscular blonde man looks at me.
"You must be Miss Cooper!" He said, smiling and reaching out to shake my hand.
"Yes. And you must be Mr Smith." I said nervously shaking his hand.
He just nodded.
"I am indeed. Now, I'd love to talk and get to know you but you have a new office to get settled into." He said winking and smiling.
I just nod and smile shyly.
~time skip a few hours~
I'm already settled into my new office.
I have a large, dark wood desk with a computer nested on top of it.
The room is decorated by filing cabinets and drawers.
In front of my desk are 2 white chairs, probably for guests or clients to sit in.
A stupid smile covers my face as I lean back into my black office chair. I finally did it. I got the job.
Just as I'm about to start getting ready to go for lunch, my phone rings.
The name 'Archie' pops up across my screen.
I quickly answer it.
"Hey Arch what's up?" I say whilst still getting things in order.
"Hey Babe, Juliet won't get ready and I don't know what to do."
he says chuckling through the line, but the panic in his voice is clear.
I just smile at the thought of my 6 year old daughter running away from Archie as he tries to put her clothes on her.
"Juliet come back here!" He screams.
I can hear the little girly laughs through the line.
"Ughhhh. This is why I need you here Betts!" He says sighing.
"Give the phone to her." I say smiling sweetly. "I know what to do."
"Hi mommy!" She shouts through the phone.
"Hi baby. Why aren't you getting ready for school?"
"Ummmmm.."
she says, trying to think of an excuse. "I feel sick?" She giggles.
"J. Go get ready now or Kayla can't come over for a week." I say sternly, knowing that if seeing her best friend is on the line, Juliet will be ready in minutes.
"OKAY OKAY I'M GETTING READY. BYE MOMMY!!" She shouts giving the phone back to Archie and running upstairs.
"Thank you Betts."
"No problem Arch."
"See you when you get home from work. Have a good first day."
he said quietly into the phone.
"Bye." I say quickly, realising my lunch hour has already started.
~skip to when she finishes work cause I'm lazy~
My moms name flashes across my screen as I get in my car.
I quickly pick it up and greet her.
"Hey mom!" I say excitedly. I haven't talked to my mom in a few weeks.
"Hey honey, I was wondering if you're free this weekend?"
"I think I am, why?"
I ask suspiciously.
"I just wanted to ask if you, Juliet and Archie want to come home for the weekend. Me and your dad miss you!" My mom says cheerfully.
I can't bring myself to say no to her. I just can't.
"Sure mom. We'll be there Friday okay?"
"Of course sweetheart! We'll make up the rooms for you! Well I have to go. Love you honey, bye."
"Bye mom. Love you."
I'm excited to see my mom and dad, I'm not missing Riverdale however though.
Too many bad memories rest there.
Well it's been 7 years, I've changed as a person. And the chances of running into them are lower now.
I organise my office a bit and then head to my car to go home.
That's when I saw her.
She looked straight into my eyes.
Something between sadness, happiness and guilt flashes through her dark brown eyes.
I realise how long I've been staring at her and snap out of it.
The familiar raven haired girl walks up to my car and taps on the window, but before she can talk to me, I start my car and drive away.
Tears start streaming down my face as I pull out of the parking lot, memories of what she did flash through my mind.
Veronica lodge, why is she here? Why now?
