WHAT IN the world are they doing here?
Nakanganga akong nakatitig sa dalawa na nasorpresa ring makita ako rito sa birthday celebration ni Dad. Tanging si Alistair yata ang hindi nagulat sa attendance ng mga kasama namin sa QED Club.

"Lorelei? I thought you have a prior commitment today?" tanong ni Loki.
"This is my commitment—" Naningkit ang mga mata ko sa kaniya nang may sumagi sa isip ko. "Wait a minute! No'ng tinanong mo ako kahapon kung puwede kitang samahan, itong party ba ang tinutukoy mo?"
"If I knew that you're also invited here, I wouldn't have asked you."
"Lorelei wasn't invited here," pagtatama ni Alistair sa kaniya. "She's the daughter of the celebrant."
Nanlaki ang mga mata ni Jamie habang no reaction si Loki. Napapalakpak pa ang kasama naming hindi naka-braid ang buhok. "I knew it! Kaya pala the name in the invitation sounds familiar! Magkapamilya pala kayo!"
"What name?"
"The celebrant is Walter Rios. She is Lorelei Rios." Napaturo sa akin si Jamie. "See the connection?"
"Oh, Rios is your surname?" Sabay na umangat ang mga kilay ni Loki. "Why didn't you tell me before?"
Napairap ako sa kaniya. The first day we met at Tita Martha's apartment, I introduced myself and told him my complete name. So how come he forgot that my—Oh, never mind! He was hopeless when it came to people's names.
Pero sino ang nag-imbita sa kanila rito at bakit? I could not recall my dad meeting Loki or Jamie before. Did Alistair invite them over?
"No, it wasn't Al who invited us here," sabi ni Loki nang lumipat sa aking kababata ang tingin ko. Wala pa akong sinasabi, pero nabasa na niya ang nasa isip ko. "We've received the invitation from Mr. Rios himself."
