Brendon gripped the steering wheel of his black Tesla and watched the road ahead of him. Amara saw his knuckles turn white from his grip and adverted her eyes back to the window.

"Thanks for doing this."

"Mhm."

Amara purses her lips and looks back out her window. "Why are you mad at me?"

"I'm not mad at you."

"Then what's up with the attitude?"

Brendon sniffs and rests his arm on the middle console of the car. "What attitude?"

"You don't want me to see my dad."

"No."

"Yea you do."

"Fine. I'm just not a fan of him. And for obvious reasons that I can't tell you."

"And why's that?"

"Because I said so, that's why."

Amara grunts and looks back out her window.

"I especially can't have you telling him about me and what I do. That's a big no no."

Amara stays silent. She slouches back in her leather chair and sighs. "I know." She says as they continue driving to her former house.

"Please don't kill him."

"I'm not going to kill him."

"Then what's the gun for?" Amara says pointing to the gun at Brendon's side.

He hesitates "safety."

"Bullshit."

"It is! I swear!" He looks over at her "I'm not going to kill your dad."

"You promise?"

"Yes Amara, I promise."

"Fine." Amara says crossing her arms. "What are you going to do then? Drop me off or something?"

"This isn't necessary, Brendon." Amara whispers in his ear as they stand at her houses' front porch, waiting for her dad.

"Why not? He won't suspect a thing."

The door opens to reveal the man Amara hasn't seen in two weeks. His beard has grown out and he's gotten more gray hairs since she last remembered. He looked like he lost a daughter.

"Dad?" Amara says quietly.

"Amara!" Alfredo says, wrapping his arms around her daughter. The man practically engulfed her with their body size difference. "Oh my sweet sweet Amara! Where have you been!" He says, pulling away to look at her face. Amara turns to look at Brendon and back at her dad. "Who's he?"
