Robert
Trapped in the one place he didn't want to be...
With people he didn't want to see...
In a situation he never dreamt of having to face...
But life seemed to have different plans...
Cause there he was.....
In one of his boardrooms finally finalizing his divorce and clearly not hearing a word of what the lawyers were saying . He was so out of it , his assistant secretly poked him out of his trance and back to the grim looking lawyer who clearly was pissed of at his lack of attention.
"I beg your pardon, could you repeat that?", he said with disinterest written all over his face and clear to everyone in the room.
The grim looking lawyer sighed as he took off his glasses and held the bridge of his nose. He then looked at him with annoyance , which he accepted. What he didn't accept, and showed it by looking away from him, was when the look of annoyance somehow morphed into pity. He didn't need his pity or anyone else for that matter. He had enough from himself as it is already.
"The question, Mr...", he said as he tried recall the man's name but he hoped he would get the hint to continue where he left off.
"It's Madison...Right, Mr. Walter, as I said before, Ms. Jackson requests an amount of thirty thousand pounds be given to her as a loan which the time to pay and the interest rate would be decided by you. How do you respond to that-", he said as he looked at him for answer.
"I refuse to give her the loan", he said quickly. A little bit too quickly that he would sound harsh to the normal ear. But it was far from that.
"Instead....I'm willing to give her fifty thousand pounds and give her an alimony check of a thousand pounds monthly for a year or until she....settles down with her partner-", he said as he stared at Laura who sat across from him.
His lawyer held onto his arm and pulled his attention towards him as he registered the shock on his face which he didn't care about. It sounded absurd to him and everyone in the room. Even Laura, who practically couldn't look him in the face since the meeting started, stared at him with utter disbelief but shifted her gaze to her hands.
"Mr. Walter are you sure with-", a glare from him stopped his lawyer's words in its tracks.
"I don't recall stuttering now do I , Mr. Parker? So yes, everything I said should be documented. When will the divorce proceeding be finalized, Mr. Madison?", he said.
"In two weeks-", Mr. Madison paused as he noticed him get off his chair and straighten his suit and ever so ready to walk out.
"Good you can send them to me in the office, I'll sign it there and my assistant , Jordan ,will mail it back to you. If we are through here, I'll love to take my leave. Jordan, cancel all meetings after 3, and ask Alfred to see me in my office. Good day to you all.", he said as he walked out of the boardroom with his face void of emotion and walked towards the elevator.
"Sir, could you...please..... slow down. I'm not... in the right footwear....or attire to run...after you...", Jordan, his secretary, said in short breaths which made him roll his eyes at her dramatic over-reactive nature.
He didn't realized he left her in the first place as he kept on walking despite her earlier protest.
"Its not my fault you chose to wear a pencil skirt and a six-inch heel to work of all days-", he said as she joined him by his side.
"Point of correction ,sir, its a five-inch heel and I was trying to look the part of secretary -", she said with gleeful tone as he pressed the elevator button.
