Natasha's POV
I watch Barton leave (backstabbing bastard) and look at Bucky expectantly. He waits until Clint has left to turn to confront me.
"Mom? Nat, what is going on?" I feel Charlie step closer into my side and I wrap an arm around her protectively.
"Leave it, Barnes," I say, staring him in eyes intimidatingly. He looks away and sighs before making eye contact again.
"Just tell me what's going on, Nat. I can help her." He could, but I'm not ready to trust someone with my daughter just yet, not after what she's been through.
"Leave it, Barnes," I repeat, turning to go back into my room when a knife lands in the wall, a few centimetres from where my head is.
"All I want are answers." I yank it out and turn around with a glint of anger showing through my eyes.
"So, that's how you wanna play."
I throw the knife at him and he catches it, so I use the split second of distraction to run at him and kick him in the stomach. He sees it coming and grabs my foot. "Mama!" I hear Charlie shout, but I can't do anything about it right now.
I use this position to my advantage and propel myself around his neck. "Nat, I don't want to fight you!" He yells, but it's too late for that. I repeatedly elbowing him in the face but his metal arm grabs my right leg and throws me off, and I hear Charlie slightly yelp in fear. I check on her quickly, finding that she's hiding behind the door frame. Unfortunately, I looked at her for a second too long, and Bucky pins my arms above my head, straddling me. "Nat please calm down," I struggle against his grip, my limbs flailing as I try and escape.
After a couple minutes I eventually grow tired and stop. Bucky doesn't let me up though, he knows me too well to do that. I try and look at Charlie, but I can't see her from my angle. I start to panic, my head moving around quickly and my eyes darting about. "Calm down, Nat. She's fine."
Bucky's POV
I hear a whisper, barely, but I still hear it. "Winter?" I look up at where the child is and see her.
"ангел," I whisper back. I let go of Natasha and run towards her. I hold her close as she wraps her tiny arms around my neck. Angel.
Charlie is suddenly ripped away from me and I feel a gun barrel held to my head. I slowly kneel and move my hands in a surrender position and I look up at Nat. "Don't touch her," she spits out, but Charlie moves the gun out of her hand using telekinesis. 'Wait, what?!'
Nat looks up in confusion and stares at Charlie, who has moved in front of me in a defensive manner. "I know him, Mom. This is Winter," she says calmly. Nat makes eye contact with me and I shrug.
"Fine," Natasha says hesitantly. "Hey, why didn't you tell me about the telekinesis?" She asks. Charlie just shrugs and dismisses the question, heading back into the room. I slowly get back up from the floor as to not make any sudden movements. Natasha just glares at me the whole time. "How do you know her?"
"We met at HYDRA. She was about 6 years old when we first met. I trained her a little and I tried to escape with her, but she was moved to a new base which I didn't know about," I explain, slightly terrified for my life. "She was like my daughter when we were there," I say quietly. Natasha's face softens from the hard glare. "When I had nobody, I had her."
"I had her just before the ceremony. They decided that their best assassin should leave behind some sort of legacy, but they wouldn't let me see her after she was 4 years old," Nat says, tears gathering in her eyes. "I've been looking for her everywhere ever since, but it was like she never existed in the first place." I walk towards Nat and hug her. She's stiff at first but she soon relaxes into the hug.
"It's not too late to help her," I attempt to reassure Nat when I feel my shoulder grow damp. I feel a smaller hand wrap itself around my waist and I recognise Charlie's set of hair. I press a small kiss to her forehead as Natasha grips her tightly.
"I'm so sorry I never found you," Natasha sobs. "I should've tried harder and I'm so sorry that I didn't," she cries even harder and Charlie just whispers reassuring nothings into her ear. I decide to leave the two alone so I quietly creep out of the hallway and down to the stairs. I make my way to the training room to try and distract myself a little. Seeing Charlie brought back a lot of bad memories and I need to take my anger, pain and grief out on something.
