Chapter 4

I don't really know when I'm going to be updating, probably just here and there. It's not like anyone is reading this anyway lmao.

Bruce's POV

We go into the med bay and I get the girl to sit on a medical bed. I take a good look at her and can tell she's been through some stuff. She clearly has malnutrition - a 4 year old could see it, and she has scars covering most of her limbs. Not to mention her terrified expression. Poor girl.

"Hey," I approach her calmly and quietly as to not scare her. "My name is Bruce and we just want to do a few tests to make sure you're not hurt. Is that okay?" Her eyes dart around, finding Nat's, who gives her a reassuring nod. She slowly looks back towards me and, very hesitantly, nods her own head.

"Okay, so could I start by asking you a few questions?" I ask on the same manner. She doesn't show any sort of negative response, so I proceed. "Let's start with your name?"

"Charlie," Nat replies. I look at the girl who has the smallest grateful smile on her face as she looks at Nat.

"Okay, and surname?" Charlie shakes her head at this. "Alright then, how about age?"

"16," Nat replies again. Why won't she speak?

"If you don't mind me asking, why don't you speak?" She looks up at me, horrified. "If you don't want to answer, that's fine! I was just curious," I say quickly as not to worry her. I see her give Nat a slight nod.

"She's a selective mute. She only talks around people she fully trusts."

"And does she trust you?" I ask Nat, whirring around from the crouch I was previously in.

"I'd like to think so," she says, looking at Charlie with a tiny smirk, as if they have an inside joke.

"Ugh no one is getting anything done here!" Tony says as he picks up a syringe. Oh god.

"I'm gonna take a blood test now okay?" Tony says as he grabs her arm. I rush forward and grab his.

"Tony no! This is not how to approach the matter at hand!"

"What do you mean Bruce! You're just going to keep asking her random questions but we actually need a blood test from her! She could be dangerous!"

"Get your hands off of her!" Nat shouts before running at Tony, Charlie looking slightly relieved that he's finally let go, yet still scared. Tony runs out of the room and Nat locks the door so he can't get back in. I can hear his cries of plea to let him back in.

"Shhh, it's okay baby. I got you. Shhh," Nat whispers into her ear as the girl shakes.

"I'll just leave you two have some time alone," I say before heading towards the exit. I turn back round as my hand is on the doorknob, "Sorry about Tony, by the way," I say to Charlie before heading out of the room.
