"Look, I didn't kill Maddie." Paige rolled her eyes, and leaned back into her chair. Paige thought the detectives working on Maddie's case were super annoying, because they kept coming back to her when she had no answers for their predictable questions.

"We don't even know if she's dead," Detective Foster clarified, noticing the Hylands' shocked faces.

"Well, that's what everyone is thinking. I'm just the only one brave enough to say it," Paige responded, crossing her arms over her chest. She hated Maddie, a lot. But that wouldn't push her to kill her.

Detective Torres leaned into Foster, whispering in his ear, "I don't think she had anything to do with it, Andrew."

Foster sighed, before taking one last glance at Paige, then back at her family's impatient stares. They were done at the Hylands for the day.

The two detectives let themselves out, and walked to their car in silence before Ashley broke the barrier between them.

"Why do you insist of interrogating that girl? We both know that she was at that school lock in the night of Maddie's disappearance. Her alibi is clean." Ashley shook her head, not understanding why Andrew was taking everything in his power to get a warrant for Paige's arrest.

"No," Andrew replied, walking around the front of the 2012 car to get to the driver's side. "You think she had nothing to do with it. There's something off about that girl, and when I find it, because I will, that girl is going to prison."

Ashley worked on the case in the office, reading through Maddie's text messages the day before and the day of her disappearance. It's almost been ten hours since then, and all of their leads had been dead ends.

Ashley raked her fingers through her dark brown hair, getting frustrated. Who would take the fifteen-year-old girl? She was pretty and popular, and her parents were wealthy. She had a little sister, and was in the epitome of the perfect family. Who would take her away from that? And most importantly, why?

She was scrolling through a conversation with one of Maddie's friends, Chloe, when she came across something worthwhile.

Ashley kept reading those specific texts over and over again. Is that what Maddie was really like? She sighed. Maybe she should go after Kendall.

"Hey, Vic, check this out," Ashley yelled, calling out to another member on their team.

Vic was a middle aged man with a buzz cut on his dark brown hair, a dark green eyes. He was taller than the average man, and was nicely built. He had worked for the precinct for the longest out of the seven of them, over twelve years.

Ashley passed him Maddie's cracked iPhone, presumably from when she was abducted. It was there, along with one of Maddie's shoes with drops of blood on them.

"You think I should question Kendall?" Ashley asked, fiddling with her fingers. Vic nodded, and passed the iPhone back to Ashley and she placed it in a plastic bag, before grabbing her jacket and leaving the building, Vic alongside her.

Kendall lived in the neighborhood opposite of Maddie's, a middle-class neighborhood, and definitely less wealthier than Maddie's family, but still well off. The two parked in front of the house as Kendall was outside, arguing animatedly with a girl, seemingly around her age.

"She's gone now because of you!" Kendall yelled, their dialogue easier to hear when the two stepped out of the car.

"You're being dramatic. She'll turn up in a couple of-"

"Who's gone?" Vic asked as he placed a foot on the bottom step, eyes scanning both of the girl's faces. The black girl was emotionless, while Kendall nervously bit the inside of her cheek.

"Who are you? Bonnie and Clyde?" The black girl, who's name was later found out to be Nia. She crossed her arms over her chest, and pursed her lips.

"Yeah, something like that." Ashley and Vic flashed their badges, causing Kendall to instinctively take a step back.

"What's your names?"

"Kendall."

"Nia."

"And you didn't answer our question. Who's gone?" Vic asked, leaning onto the railing of Kendall's porch, a smug expression on his face.

"Kendall's dog. I watch her dog when she's at dance or whatever and yesterday I let her out in the backyard instead of walking her. I guess she crawled through one of the holes in the fence or something." Nia said. "Why do I have to explain myself to you? It's none of your business anyway."

Vic glanced at Ashley, as if saying 'teens these days.' Ashley simply rolled her eyes, before turning her attention back to Nia.

"Actually, it is. We're here to talk to Kendall about Maddie Ziegler's abduction."

Kendall and Nia turned to each other, both of their eyes widened. They stared at each for a while, before they broke the stares.

"Well, I guess that's my cue to leave," Nia quickly grabbed her phone that was left on the steps as she hurried down them and down the block. Kendall and the detectives had some chatting to do.
