"Did you get a name?" Vic asked as the two detectives walked back into the precinct, their trench coats falling behind them."Yeah." Ashley nodded. "Emma Patterson. She was Maddie's neighbor and from what I heard, she was obsessed with Maddie. I'll go speak to her after school."
Foster decided to look on Maddie's phone, to check on what Ashley might've missed. They were discovering new things about Maddie every second it seemed, and it was like they knew her better than she knew herself.
"What do we have so far?" Elliot asked, after he finished typing something on his computer.
Vic pointed to the chalkboard placed in the center of the room, everything about Maddie's case written in perfect block letters thanks to Detective Manning, or known as Olivia.
"Maddie was reported missing at 10:42 Friday night after her sister saw her window left open and no sign of struggle," Andrew started.
"Paige Hyland was reported leaving her school's lock in around ten and that would give her enough time to get to Maddie'e house, coax her out of her room, and kill her," Ashley finished.
Olivia looked at the chalkboard in confusion, even though she was the one who wrote everything down.
"If Paige was the murderer, what was the motive?" She asked.
All the detectives looked at the board, connecting the lines to one mission spot; they needed a motive. Every murder had a motive.
"Paige told us that she and Maddie had a fight a couple months earlier, we just need to find out what that argument was about." Andrew furrowed his eyebrows, and began erasing Kendall's name off of the accessory list.
"Don't erase it," Ashley interrupted. "Kendall's still sketchy. When Vic and I went over to her house, she was arguing with another girl over whose fault it was. They said something stupid about Kendall's dog. And I found out yesterday Kendall doesn't have a dog."
"Kendall's alibi is clean though, she was at the lock in. She was with the chaperones all night." Olivia sighed, and leaned back into her office chair.
"That's true, but she knows something about Maddie that we don't, and it's something important. And if she lied to us once, what's stopping her from lying to us again?" Elliot responded to Olivia's comment, causing Olivia to roll her eyes. "I say we bring her in for questioning."
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 22ND, INTERROGATION ROOM
"I told you everything," Kendall insisted, crossing her arms over her chest and staring at the table.
Elliot and Ashley were there with her. Ashley stopped Andrew from coming in, because he was too violent with teenage girls. He and Vic both.
"No, you didn't. We know you what you told my other friend and that was a lie. You don't have a dog. Tell us the truth, Kendall." Ashley walked in circles around Kendall, making the teen nervous. She didn't mean for all of this to happen, she only wanted to prank Maddie.
"Okay!" Kendall cried out. "I didn't kill her but I was the one who made her leave the house. I told Nia to tell Maddie to come to the party so she could buy MBH. But I told Nia to give her acid instead so she would be knocked out and I could write stuff on her face."
Elliot and Ashley looked at each other. This was the true Kendall.
"Why would you do that?" Elliot asked.
"Because, I lied. She came up with Queen Virgin after she slept with my boyfriend and he told her that I wouldn't put out." A tear slid down her cheek. "But Maddie never showed up at the party, so Nia and I left."
"Wait, Maddie usually buys drugs?" Ashley asked, her mocha brown eyes widening. Maddie bought drugs, which opened up something in the investigation. "That's a drug used to help people with ADHD.
"Uh, I guess." Kendall wiped the years from her face. "That's how she stays on top of everything. She buys it so she can focus and pull all nighters. I heard her tell Paige once that she didn't sleep for like, three days. And then Maddie just laughed about it like it was no big deal."
"How did Maddie get the money for drugs?" Asked Elliot, bending down to meet Kendall's height. She noticed how green his eyes were, and was absolutely disgusted. She was in there being questioned for her school mate's disappearance and she was thinking about how good looking the detective was.
"Uh, I don't know. We weren't really friends, considering the fact that she slept with my ex," Kendall said sarcastically, rolling her eyes. "Chloe should know, she was the one that got Maddie into drugs in the first place."
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 22nd, THE LUKASIAK RESIDENCE
The detectives stood outside of the Lukasiak's mansion, ringing the doorbell that echoed throughout the premises. A young girl around the age of eight answered the door, her platinum blonde hair pulled into a loose ponytail.
"Who are you?" She asked, with more attitude than an eight year old should have.
"I'm Vic and that's Detective Manning," Vic said brusquely, pushing easily past the tiny girl causing her to scream out for her mother.
"Clara, what's going on?" Asked a middle aged woman in a pantsuit, hurrying down the marble staircase, her heels echoing with every step.
"Hello, Mrs. Lukasiak-"
"It's Ms. Lukasiak," She said abruptly, her demeanor changing.
"Sorry, Ms. Lukasiak," Vic corrected with a subtle roll of his eyes. "We're looking for your daughter, Chloe. We're the detectives working on Maddie Ziegler's case."
Christi Lukasiak cringed at Maddie's name, her fake smile turning into a grimace that she couldn't hide.
"Oh, that poor thing," Christi said, her voice strained. "Chloe's at dance at the moment, but you can come back later. And that means you can leave, now."
---
The two detectives were back at the precinct, with none of their questions answered. They stared at the chalkboard, Kendall's name officially erased as well as Nia's. The only name up there were Paige. She was their last lead to Maddie.
"I think we should talk to Emma Patterson," Olivia suggested, after drinking a cup of water.
Olivia didn't usually get to question people, because she got over emotional on cases. Which wasn't good for a detective, and because she couldn't drive at thirty two. She was a lost cause.
"I agree," Andrew said after successfully going through Maddie's phone. "According to Maddie and Chloe's texts, Emma followed her around. A lot. They even insulted her right in her face, and Emma apologized for whatever she did wrong. That girl was obsessed."
"Okay, let's bring her in." Elliot agreed, grabbing his coat. Elliot and Andrew left, leaving Olivia and Ashley.
"I'm going to need you two to go down into Davy Park," Vic said, after hanging up from a phone call.
"Why?" Olivia asked, even though it was finally her chance to leave her desk.
"They just found Maddie's body."
