Katherine was eating breakfast, which consisted of bacon, and eggs with cheese, and a glass of milk. Her mother was eating pancakes, with syrup, and drinking coffee. "This is pure Colombian coffee, my dear!" said her mother, taking a sip.

"That's nice, Mom," said Katherine.

"You gonna feed those horses, before you head on to school?" asked her mother.

"Yes, Ma'am," said Katherine.

"Better get right on it, then! Don't want to miss the bus!"

"Can't I ride one of the horses to school?"

"You sure as spit, can't!"

Katherine sighed, and finished up her breakfast, so she could feed the horses. She put on her shiny, black knee high boots, with her blue jean shorts. She went outside to the barn, and was greeted by an unpleasant smell. The barn reeked of cigarette smoke, and beer. "Some guys keep sneaking in this barn every night!" said Katherine. "They act like this is a bar! I'm gonna git them!"

Katherine fed the horses, their hay. One of the horses neighed in her ear. "Cut that mess out, Toby!" snarled Katherine. "Piece of horsespit!" The bus arrived, and Katherine hollered at her mother. "Bye, Mom, I'm off to school, now!"

"Behave yourself, now!" said her mother. "Don't be getting into any fights with any boys!"

"Mom, please!" scoffed Katherine. She got on the bus, plopped herself down, and let out an exasperated sight.
