odette hummed to herself as she scooped the pancake out of the pan and onto her plate. she gathered the syrup and her drink to place them on the table before adding the plate and a fork. just as she was about to sit down, there was a knock on her door.

she groaned as she rolled her eyes, leaving her pancakes with regret. cursing lea in her head, she made her way to the front door, mouth ready with a quick comment as she swung it open. the words died on her lips.

"can i kiss you?" ashton irwin asked, standing in front of her and looking entirely too good to be true.

"you — wait — how — please," odette managed to get out, reaching for him as he reached for her.

he held her face in his hands as he pressed his lips to hers finally. odette felt like a piece was snapping into place as they embraced for why felt like hours. her hands clutched at his t shirt to keep him close to her. they pulled away to breathe and rested their foreheads together, panting into the shared space. odette pecked ashton's lips once, twice more before taking a very small step back.

"what are you doing here?" she asked, out of breath.

"i didn't kiss you," ashton murmured, tucking a piece of her hair behind her ear. "i'm sorry for not kissing you."

"well you've certainly made up for it," odette grinned. "come inside and then you can explain what you're really doing here."

her pancakes were left ignored as they moved to her living room. odette sat first, tugging on ashton's hand to pull him down next to her.

"i think i made a mistake when i said we couldn't be together," ashton began, speaking probably too quickly. "i care about you more than i've cared about anyone and i can't just let you slip through my fingers."

odette's smile was hurting. "you've caught me now. are we doing this?"

ashton nodded, "if you want to do this, too."

"of course i want to do this," odette scoffed, "i was dying inside when i walked away from you at that airport. i'm so glad you're here."

"so you'll be my girlfriend, then?" ashton grinned.

"how charming," she joked, giggling when he poked her in the side. "yes i'll be your girlfriend. you gonna come visit me all the time?"

"as long as you visit me too," he answered. "can't have me do all the work."

"no we can't have that, can we?" she kissed him once more, just a short kiss, before continuing. "how long are you staying?"

"well that depends," ashton shrugged, "i need somewhere to stay."

"oh don't even," odette rolled her eyes. "i've got a bed."

"how presumptuous of you, miss wright," he teased, taking both of her hands in his. "i'll have you know, i don't put out on the first date."

"lucky for me, because i'm not counting this as our first date."
