Chapter 9: The little mermaid

Quinn's POV

I am woken up by Rachel's small fingers tracing over my jawline. I groan and put my hand over hers.

"Jeez what time is it Rach." It doesn't even feel like morning.

"Like 2:30. I'm trying to fall back asleep but your beautiful face is keeping me awake." Rachel says and wipes her thumb over my lips.

"Let me sleep women." I close my eyes and try to fall back asleep but Rachel is persistent.

"This is what I want, we can cuddle and touch eachother like this. And we can be friends without it being weird." She moves back to my jaw and grips it between her tan dainty fingers.

"Go to bed Rachel you can touch me in the moring... wanky. Go to bed I mean it." I say lightly and grab Rachel tigher drawing her body closer to mine. Our bodies fit like a glove. I kiss Rachel's cheek and fall back asleep in her arms.

I wake up without the light profusely burning my eyes like the last time I woke up here. I try to move but I am stuck in Rachel's arms.

"Rachel?" I start petting her hair and touching her face. "Wake up Rachel, come on." She leans back and loosens her grip I shift to move out of the bed but then see retightens her arms around me and tucks her head in my neck. "Oof. Rachel I can't breath." I say after a couple minutes. Rachel groans like I did when she woke me up in the middle of the night.

"But I don't want you to leave." She mumbles.

"I know I will be right back I have to go to the bathroom." She lets go of me quickly.

"Come back when your done." Rachel flips over and pulls the blankets up to her face. I walk into the bathroom. I flush the toilet and wash my hands. There is a light knock on the door.

"Yeah Rach." I call out and open the door.

"Someone is calling you." She hands me my phone and mopes into the bathroom. I answer my phone and sit on the bed.

"Hey babe when are you going to come over?" Finn says.

"Oh shit." I say quietly. "I totally forgot I said I was going to come over today."

"So your not coming over." I hear sadness in Finn's voice.

"No no baby I will. I am at a friends house right now and I can't come right now." I pull my phone from my face to check the time and it says 10:34 am. "I'll come over around 4. Is that okay?" I ask and bite my cheek.

"Thats perfect see you then Quinn, I miss you bye."

"I miss you too bye." I hang up and as soon as I do Rachel comes out of the bathroom, like she was waiting for me to finish the call.

"Who was that?" Rachel asks shyly and stands in the middle of the room.

"It was just Finn he wants to hang out later. Why? Are you jealous?" I stand up and meet her in the middle of the room. I poke her stomach and wait for her response.

"Not exactly." Rachel bats my hand away and looks me in the eyes. I was not expecting her to say that at all.

"Um what is that supposed to mean?" I ask in a rude tone. She rolls her eyes at me.

"It means that I was in love with Finn and we have this weird thing going on between us. You guys are together and I have neither." Rachel admits quickly. My guard lowers and my facial expression softens.

"You have me Rach. But yes I am with Finn. And thats not going to change for anyone." I smile and grab Rachel's hand. "I think I should leave." I say dully and get up. Rachel grabs my shirt with both of her hands.

"But Quinn..." She trails off and releases her grip on my shirt.

"I think this is too much for both of us. But I don't want us to end. And our friendship won't. I'll see you at school tomorrow Rach." I walk out of her room and down the steps. I look up the stairs and see Rachel looking down at me blankly. Her chocolate eyes lingering on me. I pull my jean jacket off the hooks and put it on, I say nothing as I walk out the door. As soon as I shut the door I hear muffled screams.

"I love you dammit." I immediately turn on my heal and run back inside. I climb the stairs quickly and tackle Rachel to the ground.

"I love you so much." I cry into Rachel. She starts crying too and we lay on the carpet holding eachother.

"I love you." Rachel is crying hysterically.

"I love you. I love you." I repeat over and over into Rachel's ear. "Not Finn you and only you its always been you Rach." I quietly scream and roll over. I move so I can see Rachel's face. I rub my hand over her cheek.

"Not Finn?" She asks and her chocolate eyes glare into mine. I smile.

"No." Is all I can muster up.

I cuddle up closer to Rachel on the couch. I lean on her shoulder and put my arm around her waist. She pulls a blanket from off the back of the couch and drapes it over the both of us. She points the tv remote at the tv.

"How about little mermaid?" Rachel peers down at me.

"Actually yeah I haven't seen that movie since I was a kid." I nod my head and Rachel turns the little mermaid on. All through out the movie Rachel sings to the songs. Once Ariel gets her legs Rachel yawns and rests her head on my lap. I put my hand on her side and squeeze a little. She looks up to me and smiles. I respond to her by biting my lip.
     Rachel turns back to the little mermaid and keeps on singing. My eyes start to feel heavy so I lean my head on the back of the couch and fall asleep. I have no idea why I have been sleeping so much lately.

"Quinn?" Rachel shakes my shoulder.

"Ahhh. You scared me." I open my eyes and find Rachel sitting next to me.

"Sorry its just been a few hours I was wondering if you were okay?" Rachel says.

"What time is it anyway?" I yawn and stretch. Rachel leans forward and checks the clock on the wall in the kitchen.

"3:51."

"Oh shit." I scramble to my feet. "I told Finn I was going to be at his house at 4." I say quickly and walk over to the front door.

"But I thought you said its always been me and not Finn." Her chocolate eyes peirce my soul and her lip sticks out to form the cutest pouty face ever. I put my hand on her chin and rub it with my thumb.

"Rachel. I have an image and I was going to choose Finn. Text me later yeah." I smile brightly and rub Rachel's shoulder.

"I understand Quinn. I'll text you later. Bye." Rachel smiles sympathetically. I hug her tightly.

"Bye Rach." I walk out the door and get into my red car. I look up and see Rachel out of her bedroom window. I wave as I drive off.
