[Picture of Sophia on the side]

Kate's POV

I tossed and turned on the spare mattress against the opposite wall, unable to sleep that entire night. No matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't keep my eyes off of Sophia and that locket, which she just happened to wear to bed.

She wasn't very fond about me sharing a room with them, but after arguing with her mom about it for a couple hours, she had no choice but to accept. Carl, on the other hand, was acting like I didn't exist. It honestly comforted me, no matter how disappointed I still was in him.

Lillian was staying in the room a few doors down with Beth and Judith. I stayed with her for a while and then came back in here before I went to sleep. We haven't even been here a full 24 hours and she was already taking a liking to Beth and the group. I still felt closed off from a majority of them. And I didn't like the thought of starting anew, with more people to worry about and more people worrying about me.

I glanced at the alarm clock. It was stopped at 12:43 pm, so who knows what time it actually was. My hands ran through my hair as I sighed and sat up in the bed. Out the window, the sun had yet to begin rising over the horizon. It was dark and not a noise was heard. Honestly, it was frightening. No walkers, no people, no movement, nothing.

Sophia was laying cozily next to Carl with her head propped up on a pillow. Taking a moment to make sure that they were both fully asleep, I got up and rushed towards the door, careful not to make too much noise. Once I was out of the room, I crept passed all the closed doors and down the stairs.

Loud snores could be heard coming from some of the rooms. I knew that there were some people sleeping in the living room due to the lack of space. I slowly made my way passed them and into the kitchen.

I leaned against the counter, thinking about everything that's happened to us so far. The darkness left me almost completely blind. I can run, I thought. I can grab all the stuff I can find and take Lillian while everyone's asleep. We would make a run for the trees, like always. This could work.

I nodded to myself as I made up my mind. We'll be leaving. I just needed to find supplies that we could use. Tossing my hair back in a messy bun, I began scavenging for food and stuff that could be useful around the house. Hershel's a doctor. He has to have some medicine somewhere.

But before I started officially searching, movement could be heard. Low, muffled voices to be exact, coming from the living room.

I froze in place, stopping myself from reaching for the drawers. As I listened closely, I could make out two voices. They were male and female. I pressed my body against the wall and turned my cheek, trying to remain unseen and motionless.

"Did you see anyone?" Maggie asked, tiptoeing passed the couch and towards the door. Whoever she was talking to shook their head and then I recognized the person as Daryl.

"No. But there was a camp. 'Bout a mile out. We can take some people out to search the area later on."

"You think it's safe?"

"No. Hell no. It means there's someone out there. But we can go in groups. I know my way around and so does Glenn. They might have some supplies. I don't expect anyone to be smart enough to just take off."

Maggie sighed softly, running a hand through her hair and shifting the weight to her right leg. She turned to glance at the members of the group who were sleeping on the pullout couch and chairs. "Well, I'm gonna get some sleep. We'll discuss it in the morning. You takin' watch?"

He nodded, gesturing for Maggie to go rest. "What about those new kids? Kate and Lillian? I know some of you don't agree with having them here, but she's just a kid. We could use someone like her to help with the farming."
