(This is Part 1 of Place To Stay, a Hetalia France x Reader fanfiction. I obviously don't own Hetalia or any of its characters. Thank you for reading!)

You stood in front of the door of the apartment of your close friend, Alfred, nervously. He knew you were coming, and you were never a burden to him, but... your scenario wasn't the most flattering. In fact, it was pretty downright embarrassing. Every time you talked to him, though, it was as if it had never happened. He acted like he always did, bright and cheery. He was the best person to talk to if you ever had something bothering you. You had called him that morning, explaining your predicament about not having a place to stay after... well, after Abel. He immediately told you he had the BEST solution to any problem that anyone had EVER come up with, and you should come over at 2:00. So you did.

Finally, you knocked. You were a bit late, but you knew you had to be. He was always late. If you were on time, he wouldn't be ready for your company. He'd invite you in and the place would be messy, with beer and soda cans on the coffee table, a couple knocked onto the carpet, and fast food wrappers everywhere. The man had three roommates and NONE of them knew how to cook.

"Hey! Y/n, I'm glad you're here. Right on time!" He said, moving out of the way to allow you to come inside. As you took in the room, you noticed Mathias, one of the many roommates, lazing about on the couch, face-down. "Sorry about him, he's hungover." Alfred said as he grabbed a pillow and threw it at the groaning Mathias, who promptly groaned, "hey, y/n".

"I'd love to stick around and chat, Alfred, but before all that, I'm insanely curious: what's this so-called genius solution you were telling me about?" You asked eagerly. He was smiling from ear-to-ear. You just hoped it wasn't something too crazy, like staying in a cheap motel that had roaches or something. Sometimes Alfred had ideas like that. But he sounded so sure of this one, maybe it wouldn't be bad!

"Yeah, of course, dude!" He said, standing up and slamming his hands down on the table where you sat. "Francis!" He said, beaming at you as you sat there, staring at him.

"Uhhh... what?" You asked, utterly confused about what he meant.

"You know, Francis Bonnefoy? He's a lonely guy, I think." Alfred said, as if it was obvious. From the other room, Gilbert, another one of Alfred's roommates, chimed in.

"Totally! I've been telling him he needs to get out more, y'know, with babes and stuff, but he hardly leaves his place anymore!"

That didn't help the scenario much.

"Alfred, I appreciate that, but the last thing I need right now is a boyfriend. And I don't even know Francis. I've only heard stories." You said with a sigh. There it was. You'd hoped that Alfred would have some wonderful idea, but it seemed that he thought hooking you up with some guy he knew would make you feel better. You couldn't be mad at him: he tried his best.

"No, no, no, not that!" He exclaimed. "I mean, you should stay with him! He doesn't have any roommates or anything." Alfred explained, sitting back down at the table. Suddenly Gilbert entered, messily eating a doughnut and letting the crumbs get all over the ground.

"So, if you're not setting her up with Francis, that means she's single, right?" He asked, his mouth full.

"I'm not sure about this, Alfred." You said, sending him an uncertain look. "I don't want to be a burden to him, especially since I don't even know him. And I can hardly afford to pay anything to him for my half of rent... I'd feel awful." You said.

"This isn't meant to sound rude, y/n, but... what other choice do you really have right now?" Asked the last of the roommates, Antonio, as he came out from a bedroom.

"And don't worry about rent. He inherited that apartment. He doesn't pay shit to live there, so you wouldn't have to either." Gilbert said, leaning against the counter. "Plus, knowing that guy, he'd never let you pay. He's so..." Gilbert furrowed his brow, thinking about what he wanted to say.

"Nice? Gentlemanly? Not selfish?" Antonio offered. "Y/n, you have nothing to worry about with Francis."

"Plus, he just lives a couple floors above us, dude! If you ever need me, I'll be right here! Come on, just give it a shot!" Alfred said, practically begging you. He just wanted you to be okay, of course. He had a heart bigger than his brain.

"... Alright, I'll stay with him. But only for your peace of mind, Alfred. And as long as you promise me he's not awkward or rude or something like that. And if he is, then I have to come stay here and take your bed, Alfred, and you'll have to sleep on the floor." You told him, still unsure about the whole plan. But Antonio was right. Where else would you have to go? And from what you'd heard about Francis, he was super nice. You just hoped what you'd heard was right.
