CHAPTER 4

(Pipers point of view)
Richelle and I exit studio 1 having acheived half of the choreography for our duet. We walked into the even messier locker room, treading over bags, jumpers, smoothies and who know what else. We approached our unscathed lockers. I open mine and hide my pointe shoes in the side pocket of my bag. I retrieve my hoodie and water bottle and head for studio A for our 10 person dance rehearsal.

Richelle and I walk in, engrossed in deep conversation when Kenzie walks up to us. She gives both of us a hug in turn and drags us over to the centre of the studio, encouraging us to stretch with her. I slide into an easy splits and continue to talk with the two girls. I see Amy run over to us and begins to stretch.

"Are you guys excited to try the new lifts that we have added." She practically yells. We all nod in agreement apart from Kenzie. She was going to be doing an acro pass across the front of the stage while Richelle, Amy, Summer and I were being lifted. As that conversation drew to a close, Emily walked in, clearly ready to start rehearsal.

"Alright dancers, up you get. We have decided the order for the lift section. So Henry you will be in the far left lifting Amy, Then it is Kingston lifting Lily, then Finn lifting Piper and then Ozzy lifting Summer. Richelle, you are now tumbling across the front of the stage with Kenzie. Lets go people!" She exclaimed, flustered.

We got into first positions and Emily turned on the music. Our semi final routine for Nationals is to Waves by Dean Lewis. Our finals routine that we are working on right now is to Come Alive from the Greatest Showman. It starts off all mysterious but ends up into a beautiful hip hop routine. The story line is that we are all to afraid to show our selves to the world but Henry Tells us to embrace our self and show the world what we are capable of.

We are at the contemporary section where we are hiding our selves. I start this section with Richelle. We start to get more comfortable and then we get to the lift section. Henry lifts Amy, Kingston lifts Lily and then it comes time for Finn to lift me. I feel really uncomfortable in his grasp, I become really tense and then Finn drops me.

"Finn and Piper can we try that last lift combo again please," Emily asks us nicely. Finn lifts me up, he goes to swing me to the left, me directing my body in the right direction but Finn drops me again.

"Ok ummm, everyone take 5. Piper can I talk to you for a second." I nod and walk over to Emily, "You look really tense in Finns arms which is why he is dropping you. Why are you so tense." I can't tell Emily that I have a crush on Finn which is why I am struggling with the lift so I decide to lie.

"I guess being practically front and center is really freaking out my anxiety, and is just making me really tense and. I'm sorry." I mumble, hanging my head.

Emily shakes her head, "No its fine Piper, we can sort out something to fix that. Now because of height, we can't move Finn." Just at that moment Summer walks back into the studio. "Summer!" Emily says beconning her over, "Would you be comfortable swapping with Piper and being lifted by Finn and Piper being lifted by Ozzy?" Emily asked, practically pleading with Summer.

Summer smiled like she always does, "Of course! I would love to help out Piper." She pulls me in for a hug just as everyone walks back in form their break.  

"Ok guys I want it full out, from the top." Emily shouts at everyone as they walk in. We all go into our first positions as Emily turns on the music. When we got to the lift section, Finn performs the lift combo with Summer well but he is clearly confused, so it makes it less impressive. Ozzy lifts me and I feel so much more comfortable to be away from Finn. I smile through the whole combo.

"Flawless Ozzy and Piper." Emily exclaims as I fan out of the last lift. She turns off the music smiling at us. I turn around and hug Ozzy who hugs me back. I see Finn scowling at us, and all I can feel is confusion.

"Summer and Finn, that lift needs a little work but it is looking good for the first time. Lets go over the next part of the choreography." Emily says, practically glowing. Finn shoulders past me and it hurts, physically and emotionally. I look at Amy from across the studio who shrugs at me.
