The scenario happened 4 years ago. I'm now 17, well, turning 18 in a year. Ever since that day, I've trained hard, learning how to fight and bare pain. I had always tried to hide my wings as much as I could before they got too big to fit inside my shirt and bandage them tight. I ended up learning to fly alot later than most people did, which is completely fine since no one all the way through middle school bullied me for that.
By my freshman year I was able to fly. I was now fully capable of defending myself. I would always smile to myself knowing that I didn't need my undependable father to help me.
I still couldn't find the boy, 'Brendon', that saved my life that day. I hoped that this year, my last year of high school, would lead me to him. I desperately wanted to see what he'd look like now, how did he act? Is he still as kind as he was then? Did he dye his hair? I smiled as I thought of what he might look like. Not in a weird way, it's just been awhile. I'd like to properly thank him in return, give him whatever he wants. I dunno, I'm just so thankful that I didn't die like that.
As I skate back to my house with a coffee, I think about meeting him. At least I know his name, he has a kind of simple name, so I'm really hoping he actually will remember me.. he said he's never forget, but we'll have to see...
I kick up my skateboard and run up my steps, wiping off my shoes before sliding them off by the door right next to my board before stepping inside.
"Hey dad I'm home!!"
"Hey bud! Dinner is cooking." He smiled and waved to me as I stepped onto the kitchen.
"Awesome! What's cooking??" I look into the pan.
"Fried rice and teriyaki." He said, stirring the rice around.
"Niceee." I take a sip out of my caramel latte before walking out.
"Alright, I've got to figure out an outfit for school tomorrow. See ya when dinner's done dad!"
"Alright!" He waved. I ran up the stairs, opening the door to my room. I set my coffee on my nightstand and open my closet door.
"Ah too much to choose froooommm."
I wined. What look should I go for? Edgy? Soft? Normal? Nah not normal, I want Brendon to notice me.
Same excuses every year, huh me?
I end up settling on a baggy grey tee with my baby blue hoodie and black skinny jeans.
"Hey Tyler dinner is done!!" My dad yelled up to me.
"Coming!" I yelled back.
My dad was a great guy. He wasn't like the dads in the movies that would blame their kid for their wife's death, he wasn't abusive or blaming me for mom's death. It made me really happy that he still cared for me. We got caught low on money at times, and he still looked a bit sad when people would talk about mom, but otherwise we're fine.I rushed down the stairs and sat at the table.
"Looks awesome." I smile as we say a small prayer together.
"Hope it tastes as good as it looks." My dad chuckled.
"It does!" I say with my mouth full. My dad laughs and we spend the rest of dinner in a comfy silence.About an hour later of watching television I stood up.
"I'm real tired, goodnight dad."
"Night! Make sure you have your alarm set before you go to bed! I'll be off to work an hour before you tomorrow, extra long day." He said, brushing his fingers through his thin maroon hair.
"Ah- Alright. Love ya."
"Love you too Ty." He smiled and continued with his tv as I walked up the stairs and into my room. I quietly shut my door and stripped down to my boxers, throwing the clothes wherever. I turned off my light and jumped into my bed, wrapping myself in my blankets.I found it hard to fall asleep, so I decided to put on some music. I eventually started to fall asleep, yawning and then turning over before I actually fell asleep.
