Ch 1

Bentlee's POV

Today is the day! My cousin Genie and I have been dying to go on a cruise together and since her birthday was during the summer it was the perfect time to go on a vacation and escape from reality.

Genie and I haven't always been super close, when we were younger she scared me. Mainly cause I was the annoying little cousin who would come over and bother her with a bunch of things that 'big girls' don't care about. I would also get into physical fights with her brother Noah, but that's besides the point.
We didn't see each other until the beginning of this school year, but really it felt like we had this whole time.

Oh! I should probably mention who I am. I'm Bentlee Trentino, but everyone calls me Beni. My mom named me after my grandpa Ben. I am thirteen years old and I have long, curly brown hair and dark brown eyes. I've always been the tallest in my class; even though I go to a private school that only has about 50 kids in it ranging from k-12. Genie doesn't go to my school but she's 5'2, so if she did go it really wouldn't make a difference. Right now I'm close to 5'9, but I tell people I'm 5'8 because I don't like being the tall girl. This also is the main reason I have really bad posture, why doesn't my school have any tall kids? I don't understand.

Anyways, today is the day that Genie and I have been waiting for. She's never been on a cruise and I've been dying to take her on one. Right when my alarm got up for this morning I ran to take a shower and brush my hair and teeth just so that way everything was completely packed and put away.

After I made my bed, I ran downstairs to be met my my sister sitting down at the dinner table, who was watching YouTube and eating cereal.

"Chloe, did you pack everything?"
"I think so." She said not even lifting her eyes from her phone.
"What does that mean?"
"Beni, I don't know I got my clothes and aunt Cathy said she'd help me the cruise is tomorrow."
"Wait what?" I said out of shock. "But I thought we were leaving today."
"Beni, we're leaving tonight to go to the hotel and then tomorrow we're going on the cruise." She replied rolling her eyes.

In my disbelief, I checked my phone and saw the actual date, "Oh, no one told me we were going to a hotel tonight."

"Beni, you realize how far away we are from the actual ship right?" Said my aunt. I don't know how she does that, she just pops in sometimes. It gets creepy.

"No! Nobody told me anything except for we're going on a cruise!" I replied, this always happens. Every time we do something I don't know the whole plan and I look stupid for it because everyone else does. Yes, that includes my eight year old sister!

"Oh... well we're leaving with Nona, aunt Franca, and Her kids at 10:30 tonight when I got off of work. Ask Genie who she's riding with." She said walking out of the room.

I searched in my contacts for Genie and then Face timed her.

"Hey loser." I said laughing.
"Shut up." Her phone wasn't on her face, but I could tell she was rolling her eyes, which just made me laugh even harder.
"Are you riding with aunt Cathy or your mom?"
"Probably Aunt Cathy."
"Okay." Knowing Genie, that probably really means I don't know, she's really indecisive.
"Okay I'm really excited Beni!"
"Me too! We're gonna have so much fun, I can't wait!"
We talked for about an hour until she remembered she had to pack a couple more things.
"See ya later Beni."
"Bye."

I looked at the clock and realized it was only 12:30.
My aunt left for work at 11:00 am and I was really bored.

I looked down at my phone too see a FaceTime call from my friend Rose.
"Hey Beni, I was wondering if you wanted to go bowling tonight?" She asked.
"Genie and I are supposed to leave New Smyrna tonight at 10:30, so it would have to be before then if we do." I replied.
"Well she can come too if it's okay. Taylor and Jason are going too."
"Okay, I'll see if we can go."
"Okay."

I hung up then texted my aunt.

"Hey do you think it would be fine if Genie and I went bowling tonight with Rose, Taylor, and Jason? All of our clothes are packed and ready."
I asked thinking she would say no because we are literally supposed to leave town.

After a couple minutes she sends back, "Yeah as long as Rose can pick you up. I'll pick up you and Genie tonight there if you can just bring your suitcase downstairs so I can load it up then come and get you."

"Okay thanks." I send

I texted Genie and asked if she wanted to go, which of course she did because she loves hanging out with my friends.

Then I texted Rose telling her Genie and I can go but she would have to pick us up at my aunt's house.

Genie came over at 5 and Rose picked us up at 6:30 to go to the bowling alley and meet up with the boys.
It was fun, but then Genie and Rose started drooling over Taylor's cologne so I got a little uncomfortable. When it was 9:45 we got a text from my aunt saying to start finishing up because she's going to check out, then come get us with my Nona. Which was perfect timing since we finished just our round. Jason won first, I came in second which annoyed me because I am very competitive, Taylor came in third, Rose came in fourth, and of course Genie came in fifth.

When Genie and I changed back into our shoes we got a text from my aunt that she was outside, so we hopped in the car and started driving to the hotel with my aunt Franca's car behind us.

We didn't get to the hotel until 2 am, but we had a lot of fun until us kids fell asleep. When we got to the hotel I was so exhausted I barely remember how I got up to the room.
