She had known from the start, since she was little girl. She decided that she would be single forever.
It may sound strange to others, but ever since childhood she had hated love. She had been told by her mother that love was some nonsense that existed only in movies and Hollywood.
Her mother and father had met when they were both in college, and her mother had fallen hard for her father. They spent a night together and her mother had thought her father had feelings for her too. But when she told him about her feelings, he had just laughed at her, saying that they only a one night stand, that it didn't mean anything to him. He had also said to her that he loved someone else, and all of that broke her heart. As you probably found out, the one night stand was the reason Alexandra was born.
But no matter what had happened between her mother and the father, her mother did not let it out on her. She was the best mother she could have imagined, apart from her mother's view of love. Her father had ruined her view on love, she did not think that two people could really love each other, not after that.
That's why Alexandra had grown up thinking the same thing. That no one could really love you except family and friends.
That was until she met James.
