"Yes, it's James" he answered. She could hear that he was smiling. Her heart started beating fast and she blushed at the sound of his voice. She was glad he couldn't see her.
"Ehh- why are you calling me?" She asked, she was a little shocked that James remembered he had her phone number.
"Ehm- i just wanted to talk to you?" he said, he sounded nervous.
"Okay?" she answered. It was a long silence before she asked- "What do you want to talk to me about?"
More silence.
"Hello?" she asked into the phone.
"Yes, sorry" he answered, "i just wanted to ask you-ask you- ehh- on a date?"
he stopped and she could feel her heart respond to his word with hope. But something didn't feel right. Why would he suddenly call her and ask her on a date? This was probably a dare, that was probably why he was so nervous.
"Are you joking?" she asked into the phone. She was deadly afraid the answer would be yes.
"Wha- no!" he quickly said, "why would you think that?" he asked.
BECAUSE I AM IN LOVE WITH YOU AND HAVE BEEN FOR A VERY LONG TIME AND I THINK I WILL GO INSANE IF THIS IS A JOKE- her mind screamed but she just said- "I don't know, isn't that a kind of dare you get asked when you play truth and dare?"
"Ehm- probably- but i promise this is not a dare!" he said- "i've actually been in love with you for a long time"
Her heart nearly stopped at those words. Could this be true, was he in love with her? Was she dreaming?
It was a long silence, but finally she said- "Sure, why not, it's not like i have anything better to do"
"Yes, thank you, i-" he said, but stopped. She could hear voices from the other side of the phone.
"Sorry," James said- "i have to go, my mother need me. "A pause " Can you meet me tomorrow at 6 pm outside the school?" he asked.
"Sure" she answered and they said a quick goodbye.
She laid her phone on her desk and realized what just happened.
Her crush had just asked her out, on a DATE.
It was her first date. Finally!
She began to smile, and then laugh. Her crush liked her back!
James had asked her on a date!
