I love fire, it's awesome. Ok so here is some more survival stuff.
Be sure to gather lots of kindling beforehand. It burns quickly and it's bad if it burns itself out while you are preoccupied. -suggested by dragon_aura
Fires:
Another basic fact: birch bark is great for fires
You may have heard about rubbing two stick together, it's not the best, and definitely no the easiest way to start a fire
When using a magnifying glass to start a fire keep shifting it till you can make it a little pinpoint this will speed the process up
Paper isn't great for burning if you have a magnifying glass
Pine needles make a huge amount of smoke
There is the classic bow fire tool.
Use matches or a lighter if you have one (that is probably unneeded)
Building your fire pit:
Normally when building a fire people use a tepee style set-up which looks like this.
You first start off with you fire starting kindling, the easily burnable stuff. Then you setup twigs and small sticks in a cone around it. You continue to build it up to logs. To start the fire you have to get the center to catch on fire. This is good for rainy days because it covers the kindling.
There is also a log cabin style fire which looks like this.
The set up is there, kindling in the center and logs on the outside. This is good for windy days because it has some shelter.
A mix between the two is called a pyramid fire which looks like this.
You are supposed to put the logs on the bottom and stack smaller sticks on top until you think you are good. Then the kindling goes on top and you light it. This is the worst choice for rainy or windy days because the fire doesn't have any protection before it grows.
