"You have to save him Cordielia!"
I look at Bubbles as if she was mad and shake my head. That was a human, humans kill kins! Humans are dangerous! Bubbles roughly nudges me.
"Cordielia you must!"
I roll my eyes. Not wanting to upset her, I get on her back as she urgently swims toward the boat.
But we were to late.
——Alec
I sigh. My hand plays with the zipper on my jacket. The gentle sea breeze plays with my hair. I lean over the water and watch as the coves salty waves lap at the boat. It always calmed me, watching the sea. That's what I needed right now. Calm. I didn't want to be near my parents, or my brother. I sigh. My heart felt heavy with the thought that I would have to go back home soon. I couldn't stay out here forever, I couldn't keep running from my problems. The water won't solve everything for me. Though I wish it did. I place my hand into the cool water and twirl my fingers around in it.
"Ah!"
Something sharp had latched onto my hand, I couldn't see what it was because it was under the water. Then it tugged at me and sent me overboard. The world blurred around me. I felt my jeans, jacket, and white shirt get soaked as I was thrown underwater. I felt pressure on my foot and I open my eyes when pain shoots up my arm. The water around me turns red. I saw a creature on my arm. It's body resembles an alien with dragonfly wings and fins along its head and back. It's pupils where the shape of diamonds. It's mouth had rows of sharp pointed teeth that dug into my skin. Before I could react to the sight a gold coin shot through the water and hit the monster. The ugly creature released me and went limp, then sunk to the sea floor.
Is it dead?
I try to swim up but I couldn't, my leg was trapped in between two underwater rocks. It was getting hard to breathe, my vision started getting dark. I saw a shimmer of gold and heard something being smashed against the rock that held me. My body goes limp and I close my eyes. The rock breaks and I feel an arm around me as I near the surface. When I break free from the water I cough. I feel myself get set upon the floor of my sailboat. Gasping for air, I open my salt burned eyes and see a girl standing over me, not looking at me. She wore a black pirate hat with a white feather and had long pastel pink hair. She was wearing a long black coat, a blue outfit with white ruffles and a matching skirt. She wore long black boots. Strapped to her side was a cutlass. I saw her hand glow gold and moment later a gold coin flies into her palm. She looks down at me and I see her eyes. The blue in her eyes reflected the calm sea. I couldn't stop looking into them. The girl takes the coin in her hand and sets it on my head. Then everything went dark.I wake up to the calm sound of waves rolling onto the shore. I sit up and see that my boat was tied up to the wooden dock near the lighthouse. I was home. My parents owned this dock, and the lighthouse, and the large house that was on this property too. I place my hand on my head.
What was I doing here? How did I get here? I felt tired. I shook my head to try to clear my thoughts. I started remembering everything. The monsters. That girl. She saved me. Then... I ended up here. I look up and see the sun starting to set. I would have to think about all this later. Right now I had to get back home. I make sure the boat is secured before running off towards home. I pass the lighthouse on my way. When I got home I walked inside and head straight for my room which is upstairs.
I hear James behind me. James roughly grabs me and pulls me to his room. He throws me to the floor and kicks me in the gut. I moans in pain.
"I need you to do my chores." Alec's older brother said.
"Do them your self!"
I get up, shaking. My brother did this to me often. He would hurt me. He seemed to get pleasure out of it. My brother smiles.
"Fine then, have it your way." He says and leaves my room.
He closes the door behind him. I collapsed in bed, exhausted. I think about that girl that saved me. I remember that gold glow coming from her hand, and that coin magically flying to her. I remember the monsters that were attacking me. I imagine the girl standing in front of me again. With her pirate outfit and sea blue eyes.
What is she?
I go on my phone and look up information on monsters. I couldn't think of anything else that would explain today's events. After an hour of searching for something real I was going to give up when I came across a particular video, called Monster Vlogs.
At first, the videos seemed fake. A girl created the videos, she stated that she was a Kin and she was making these videos to help humans and kins have peace. I was interested so I continued watching the videos. The first video told me a story, about a scientist who made a portal to Jafro, the kins world. But the portal broke when the scientist tested it. Now portals are appearing on Jafro, causing kins of all types to fall to Earth, getting trapped with no way back.
It was late so I turned off my phone and laid in bed.
Monsters on Earth? That can't be true...
I pull up my sleeve and see the teethmarks from that thing.
No, it is definitely true. What else could that have been?
For the first time I realized that the wound I got on my arm was strangely healed, even though that monster sank its sharp teeth into my arm, drawing blood. I rub my arm. I want to see that girl again.
Tomorrow, I decided.
After school, I will see her.
——I close the door to my locker. Class was going to start soon. People surround me in the halls. I was well known because of my parents wealth, and because of that I never got a moment alone.
"Alec, I saw you at your soccer game last week. You did so well!" A girl says to me.
I smile at her to say thank you as others around me agree with her.
"Our soccer team would be nothing without Alec." Another girl says.
I got comments like this every day at school. Yet, they meant nothing to me. The people surrounding me only wanted something from me. Most of them wanted money, some wanted to date me for my popularity.
I never want anything to do with them. I had no true friends at school. The people around me would leave if I suddenly lost all my money or popularly.
A girl taps me on the shoulder. I turn to look at her. She had emerald green eyes and curly blond hair. She had light freckles dotting her nose.
"Hey Alec, umm... My name is Zoe, I... was wondering if you wanted to eat lunch with me on the bleachers..?"
I roll my eyes, growing annoying with the girls at this school.
"I'm busy." I mutter and walk away to the guy's bathroom.I take my bag off my shoulder and look in the mirror. My sky blue eyes looked into reflected my sadness. I hate it here. I rub my hand through my brown hair. I think of the monster from the cove. I don't know why, but all I want right now is to see her again. I look in the mirror and see a flash of blue eyes.
It's her!
I turn around to see a muscular guy with dark blue eyes. He shoves me against the wall next to the sink. His black hair has a dyed royal blue streak in it. Anger burned in his gaze.
Is he growling!?
"Let go of me!" I try to shove him off but he was stronger than I thought.
"What do you want!" I yell.
He shoves a hand over my mouth. He smelled earthy as if he lived in the woods.
"Shut up." He said.
He narrows his eyes.
"You are going to do as I say..."
