FORGET ABOUT YOU
the smell of cigarette smoke was heavy in daniel's house as he awaited jonah's arrival. they were going to go on a date together, an official date.
as daniel waited, he nervously tapped his foot against the floor, taking a drag of his cancer stick every few minutes. daniel thought back to the time they went drinking together, and how it ended in punches. he shuddered at the thought as he rubbed his cigarette butt into the piano, heading out the door at the sound of jonah arriving.
out in the drive was a fancy car, and jonah was in the front drivers seat.
"you never told me we were taking a car!" daniel said as he ran his hand along the door of the car, feeling the smooth material. he grabbed the door handle and pulled it open, getting inside. the seat was leather and it burned daniel's exposed thighs.
"j'ai décidé d'être un peu fantaisiste. c'est la voiture de Laura de toute façon." daniel nodded.
"c'est vraiment cool, merci." jonah nodded as pulled out of the drive and onto the street.
daniel hadn't been in a car in years. he preferred biking. it was healthier, less expensive, and it gave him time to think and appreciate.
"where are we going?" daniel asked as he tugged at his white tank-top.
"you'll see when we get there. just like you have your spot, the lake, i have mine." daniel smiled.
"i never knew you had a spot." daniel said as they drove.
"doesn't everyone have a spot?" daniel shrugged.
"i guess i just never thought about others like that." jonah nodded as he handed daniel his pack of cigarettes.
"would you like one?" daniel nodded as he grabbed one from the small box. "there's matches on the dash." daniel reached forward and grabbed the small packet of matches, pulling one out to light his cigarette. when it was lit he shook the match and tossed it out of the car and onto the road.
daniel watched as the busy roads became abandoned as they drove further and further out of town.
"you're not going to murder me out here are you?" daniel joked, setting his cig down in the ash tray. jonah glanced over at his lover with a grin on his face.
"no, of course not." daniel smiled.
"just making sure." daniel said as he leaned his head back, shutting his eyes.
"i wouldn't fall asleep now, we're here." jonah said as the car came to a halt. daniel opened his eyes as he brought his head back up, looking through the windshield at his surroundings.
it was an open field. there was a small dirt road leading through it and some trees in the distance, but besides that there was nothing else.
"saint merde." daniel mumbled as he stepped out of the car.
"there's a blanket in the backseat. i'll grab it, then we can lay down without getting dirty, yeah?" daniel didn't respond as he headed deep into the field. the smell of nature took over his senses, and he smiled as he dropped to his knees and laid down in the grass and flowers.
jonah smiled as he made his way over, blanket draped over his shoulder.
"so much for staying clean." he mumbled, laying down next to daniel. "do you like it?" daniel turned his head to look at jonah.
"how could someone not like it?"
jonah smiled.
"laura took me here as a welcome gift. she told me it was her spot, but now it's mine." jonah mumbled, closing his eyes.
"tu es parfait." daniel said, grabbing hold of jonah's hand.
it was such a small sign of intimacy, but jonah felt like he was on cloud nine. from just simply walking down the street together to laying in the same bed, jonah couldn't get enough of daniel's affection.
"promets que tu vas me rendre visite en amérique?" jonah asked.
"i promise. i'll spend every penny i one if it means i'll get to see you there." daniel said, feeling a tear slip from his eye.
"i'll miss you when you're gone." daniel said, squeezing jonah's hand.
"i'll miss you too."
"i wish you could stay here forever."
"moi aussi."
