Day 6
Pov - Tj
It's almost the end of Hanukkah. It's getting late in the afternoon of the sixth day. Cyrus's family is starting to cook dinner for the entire family. Me and Cyrus sit in the living room playing Go Fish. A classic.
"Do you have any 5's?" I ask.
"Go fish," he says.
I pick up a card from the pile, totaling the number of cards in my hand to 7. Why do I suck so bad at this? Cyrus literally has 2 cards in his hand.
"Do you have a 7?" he asks.
I look at my hand. A 7 lies in the middle. "How? I do not understand." I say giving him the card.
"Haha," he takes the card again. "I get to go again," he puts his thinking face on. I roll my eyes and wait for him to make a decision.
"Do you have a 3?" he asks.
Again, I look down at my cards, finding a 3. "What?! You're cheating!!" I say handing him the card.
"Nope, I just have a wicked good memory," he says putting the match down with an empty hand, making him the winner of the game.
"Well, I have a good memory too," I say and Cyrus gives me the 'really' look.
"What?" I say laughing.
"Nothing," he says collecting the cards. "Okay, we'll play Memory. Then I'll test you for sure,"
"Challenge accepted." I say. Cyrus stands up to go grab the game.
Something has been on my mind lately. It's when I saw my mom in the store. I keep trying to analyze her facial expressions but I don't know what they mean. However, I did only see her one time for a very short period of time.
She didn't seem angry, but almost surprised. She brought her hand to her mouth in shock. I thought I saw some feeling in her expression but how could I know? The fact that I don't know what was going on through my mom's head at the moment is killing me. I'm dying to know. But the only way I can find out is to actually ask her, and I don't know if I can do that.
"I'm back," Cyrus says, coming back with the game. Maybe I should finally tell him, I mean, he is my number one person to go to for advice. Besides, I haven't told him yet and he needs to know.
Cyrus notices my thinking. "What is it?" he asks.
I look up at him and pause connecting my eyes with his. He has a comforting facial expression. I love how I can tell what Cyrus is feeling but not my own mother. Anyways, I need to tell Cyrus.
"Actually," I say.
"Oh no," Cyrus says, looking concerned.
"No no, everything is fine its just, I need some advice."
Cyrus looks relieved. "Well you know you can tell me anything," he takes one of my hands.
"At the store the other day, something happened." I say.
"What?"
"I saw my mom," I spit out.
Cyrus looks shocked. "Wait what? You saw your mom?"
"Yeah I did, and I'm sorry I didn't tell you it was just, a lot," I say.
"Teej, it's alright don't worry, but like, did she say anything? What was her facial expression? Was she angry? Was she happy? Sorry I'm asking a lot of questions," he says.
