Ken froze in fear as the coyote's harsh voice echoed all around him. The others began to stir from sleep. He looked at Felix for guidance but he looked just as scared as he did. Felix noticed him staring and gave him a look that said "don't fight." Ken nodded slightly in return and didn't move an inch.
"What's this?" The coyote spat.
"A fellow bandit, eh?" He crept towards them, gun outstretched. He kicked the back of Felix's shoe and motioned for him to turn around. As he turned, a look of surprise came over the man's face.
"Well, well! If it isn't Mr. Kjellberg, in the flesh" he said triumphantly.
Felix spat in the bandits face angrily and looked down at the ground. He shrieked in fury and lunged forward to hit Felix with his gun, but it was too late. Felix ducked swiftly to the right, dodging the blow and he whacked him on the back of his head with his own gun. The coyote fell to the ground with a thud, as Ken stared in awe. Felix quickly scanned around to make sure that the rest of the men had remained asleep, before returning to the stunned Ken.
"Let's get out of here!" He whispered urgently.
Ken nodded, still shocked, and followed Felix farther into the desert. He followed blindly, as he had never been this far from home before. When it finally seemed that they had arrived, Ken was confused. They were still in the middle of nowhere, just a different part of nowhere. They walked up to the door of the old factory, it was locked.
"Wait here" Felix commanded. Ken nodded nervously, it had been a long night for poor Mr. Morrison. He jumped as he heard a loud bang from the side of the building. A few more bumps and scratches later, Felix returned dragging a long ladder. He set it up against the side wall and motioned for Ken to climb up. He gave him a look that said "are you kidding me??" but Felix insisted.
"Don't worry," he said "I won't let you fall"
Reassured, Ken places his foot on the first rung and started up the ladder. Sure enough, he felt Felix's strong hands on the ladder below him, ensuring that he does not fall. When he reached the top, Ken grabbed on to the ledge of the window above him and pulled himself up. Felix came up shortly behind him.
"You have some talking to do, superstar" Felix said pointedly in his prominent Swedish accent.
He pointed to a few dented metal lawn chairs by a dusty old fire place. Ken sat as Felix started up the fire. When he had a small fire going, he joined Ken in the other chair.
"Now," he said "talk."
