Reese had just finished History, then met with her new friend in front of technology. "Hey Jordan!" She said happily and waved.

Jordan was standing in front of the doorway, waiting for Reese. She looked down at the brunette. "Hey Reese!" She smiled at Reese. "So- do I get to choose where I sit?" Reese asked once they went through the door together.

"Nah, but the only seat open is only two seats away from mine" Jordan said and pattes Reese's back. Reese nodded, a little upset about the whole thing of not being able to sit right next to Jordan.

Reese started looking around the room, taking in all of the surroundings and her classmates.
The room was pretty simple. There was long tables in two rows on both sides, leaving a little aisle for people to walk through. There was three tables on both sides, six seats at both.

The freckled brunette watched as Jordan took a seat at the end of the middle table to the left. Her seat was right beside the aisle, making Reese slightly jealous at the space Jordan had to stretch her legs in. She looked two seats down from Jordan, then went to sit.

She took her seat and brought her notebook out. It was filled with her random thoughts.

'What if I got another dog?'
'How does Twix get down the stairs with those smol leggies of his?'
'What should be my future job?'
'What if I never changed to a girl?'

Oh wait- did I forget to tell you?(I didn't-). Reese is Trans!

Reese was born a human male, but when she was 10 she changed to female. She's been female for 5 years so far, in the 10th grade. Her parents easily excepted her, but she left her camp because of it. She thought the other campers would judge her because of her change.

She was afraid of judgement, of making herself vulnerable to the ones she called her friends.. Reese still wanted to be their friends, but that was 4-5 years ago. They would hate her no matter what.

"Reese!" Reese was snapped back to reality by the shout of the teacher. "Pay attention please.." Mrs. Yelnats huffed. Reese nodded quickly, hoping not too many people were looking at her.

Reese started taking notes in her book, then felt something nudge her right hand. Reese put down her pencil and looked over to her right hand, seeing a paper beside it. She glanced to her side to see one of her classmates.

This was a boy. He had obsidian black hair and bright hazelnut eyes. His mouth was covered up by a face mask though, not like a hospital mask, like a cloth one you wear for fun. It was completley black, except for the big, white, bold letters that said "WEEABOO" on it.

Her neighbor was facing the front, probably trying to make sure the teacher didn't notice. Reese picked up the paper in her hands and read what was at the top.

'My name is Vin, what's yours?'

Reese wrote back with her sparkly purple pen.

'Reese, it's nice to meet you Vin'

She passed the paper back, then they started writing back and forth.

'So- in your notebook, it said you had a dog, right?' Vin wrote.

'Yes, what about him?'

'I have a hampster named Sugar and a guenia pig name Spice'

'Aww, that's so cute!'

'Thank you. My older sister Delia picked out Spice, I picked out sugar'

'Is it because you're sweet as sugar~' Oh god- Reese was flirting. Well, attempting to.

Vin took the paper back, she watched as his face turned into a light blush. He quickly scribbled something back.

'Very funny.. I didn't know someone as quiet as you would be good at flirting'

'I learned it from my Mom'

'I guess she was the flirtatious one too, right?'

'Yeah, she always used to make my dad turn red as a tomato with flirts. Even in public!'

'Pretty brave soul she had, I can see it in you'

'Had? What do you mean had??'

'I can tell by the way you tell about her. You said "used to" and your face looked upset as you wrote about her'

....  . . .

'You're pretty observant, props to you'

'Thank you, you're a pretty interesting person. I think we could become friends'

[Oh so you're just gonna glimpse over the fact he stated he knew your mother was dead?]

'Why thank you very much! I would love to become friends'

'I would too. I did not expect to get such a cheery soul out of this conversation'

'You mean mine or yours?'

'Hm.. let's say both'

'So I make you cheery? Aww- that's adorable!'

Vin once again got embarrassed and slightly blushed.

'Thank you. If possible, would you like to sit with me at lunch?'

'Sure! But do you mind if I bring a friend?'

'I don't see why not'

'Yay! Thank you, Vin. Talk to you at lunch?'

'Talk to you at lunch'

Vin let Reese keep the paper. She folded it and put it in her folder for safe keeping. She normally kept souvenirs of memories, like making a new friend or going somewhere with family.

After that, Reese was half zoned out while she tried her best to focus on writing notes. Every once in a while, she would glance at Vin, who would return the glance. He didn't smile, even though she couldn't see his mouth, his face didn't make any movements to show a smile.

But Reese saw the smile, it was.. in his eyes. They were soft and gentle, like a warm and comforting smile.

A genuine smile.
