── CHAPTER TWO!

𝘽𝙧𝙤𝙖𝙙𝙬𝙖𝙮!

AFTER ARRIVING AT Simon's house, Valerie sat down on the small couch in his room, throwing a bag of chips at him. He caught it with one hand and before dropping it next to him on the bed, sitting up straight.

"Okay, so, you know how Waitress was canceled in January, right?"

"Of course I do, it's all you've been talking about for the past two months", Valerie responded in a monotone voice, throwing her legs over the back of the couch. She pulled out her phone and, after hesitating for a few seconds, opened Instagram.

"Well, I've been thinking about it, and I once again realized that its cancelation was bullshit. It was doing well! It was supposed to be one of those shows that stay up for years. Like, actual years-"

Valerie drowned out her friend's chatter- she had listened to him rant about this topic dozens of times already- and, after watching a few of her friends' stories, typed something into the searchbar.

"- and every time I got attached to a new Jenna, she left. And I didn't even get to see Colleen Ballinger as Dawn-"

"What the actual fuck", Valerie interrupted, staring at her screen in shock.

"What? I thought you knew that she was on Broadway-"

"I'm not talking about you," she said in disbelief. "You know how I went to the grocery store to get the chips?"

"Yeah."

"Well, I ran into a cute girl there, and she was in the 2012 Broadway revival of Annie, and I recognized her, and she recognized me, and she told me her name was Sadie, and I just searched for her on Instagram, and it turns out that she has ten million followers."

Simon's eyes widened, and he took her phone out of her hand to see for himself." Wait, you met Sadie Sink and started talking about Annie? "

"Yes! Why? Is that a bad thing?"

"Not necessarily, but she's famous. Like, TV famous." He put his head into his hands and let out a sigh. "Remind me why I'm friends with you again."

"You were too stupid to turn on your calculator, so I had to show you in the middle of class."

"Okay, I got it." The boy stood up and walked over to the couch, sitting down next to his friend. "She probably thought that you recognized her because of Stranger Things. God, you're stupid sometimes."

Valerie's head snapped up. "She's on Stranger Things?"

Simon looked at her like she just told him that pigs could fly. "Yes, she is, dumbass. She joined the cast for season two."

She scoffed. "Well, that explains it. I'm only on season one."

"What episode?"

"One."

"Oh God."

They remained quiet for a few seconds before Simon spoke up again. "Isn't your friend Gabriella on the show? I assumed that you saw it."

"She is, and I've seen the video, but I can't just start watching at season three. Also- shit. That's the friend she was talking about."

"What?"

Now it was Valerie's turn to hide her head in her hands. "The girl- Sadie- told me that she has a friend who was on the show. She must've been talking about her."

"Well. That conversation will haunt you in your dreams for the next few years."

Simon opened his bag of chips and started crunching them. "You know when you can't sleep, so you replay all of your embarrassing moments in your head, and then you fall into a deep spirale of self-deprecation? That's one of those-"

"I'm going to text her."

"Pardon?"

"You heard that just right." The girl shot up from her uncomfortable sitting position, grabbing her phone and unlocking it.

"She won't see it anyway! Why bother?" Simon stood up and started racing through the room.

"Because I don't have anything better to do. Should I ask her if she likes girls or would that seem-" Suddenly, her voice died.

Simon turned his head back to the couch. "Did you just OD over there?"

Valerie shook her head in disbelief, passing him the phone. His eyes turned wide as he read the notifications.
