CHAPTER XIV
"We became friends in sixth grade." I spoke to James in his office. This time I was alone. I had no back up. I didnt need any.
"What drove you two to become friends?"
"We just started talking. Well, actually, I was in a rather large fight with my so-called best friend."
"So she was kind of your support?"
"Yeah, basically." I was glad to have James here questioning me. He actually understood me.
"And has there ever been any fights between you?"
"No. If we ever argued it was over a stupid bet or our stupid choices."
"Stupid Choices?"
"Yeah, like what guy we liked or what we decided to wear. Stuff like that."
He nodded his head while biting on the end of his pen. I could clearly see bite marks. Before he knew it ink was running down his lip. I pointed and he wiped his finger along his chin.
He cursed under his breathe and ran to the bathroom. I couldn't help but chuckle.
I reached into my pocket and pulled out my phone. I had a message from Haylee.
"Run in with Kylie? So ur not dead. Party at Lennon's tonight, see u there. xoxo." How did she know if I was going? I was in that drink-until-you-cant-feel-a-thing mood and I kind of wanted to get away from all of this stress. I think Ashton was in the waiting room, or not. He probably went to get dinner, I told him to anyways.
I was anything but hungry.
James came in with a smile on his face.
Santa Claus.
"So, uh, when do I get that iPad?" I asked him.
"Christmas?" He laughed. Maybe he could read thoughts.
Shit.
"I'm just kidding. I will order it soon. We need to finish these questions." He flipped his packet open.
Did they seriously make a packet of questions? At a closer look, it was just subjects to focus on.
"Back to where we left off?"
"Hell?"
"Now.. don't look at it like that." He flipped through the pages. I was getting bored with all of this. "So, tell me about your friend. The one you were arguing with. Her name?"
"Um, Kate. And she was, I don't know. I started to become friends with other people, and I stopped spending all of my time with her. She basically got jealous and threatened to call the cops on me several times."
"Reasons?"
"Reasons unknown. But my mom called her several times to figure out the problems, but she played innocent."
"Did she, Kate, have any hatred towards Ray?"
"Once I called the friendship over, she began stuff about Ray."
"Stuff?"
"Like rumors and she basically made Ray her target."
"Oh really?"
"Yes. Anything else?"
"Tell me about your relationship with Kate?"
"Yeah, uh, we were best friends. She was my first friend ever. You know, the whole, "'Hi my name is Aubree what's yours?' on the first day of kinder garden. Then, as time moved on I began seeing her make a lot of wrong choices, and I knew that's not the road I wanted to take." I couldn't believe the truth when I heard it. I never wanted to be the girl I am now. I wanted to be a straight-A student with scholarships and an amazing life.
