Earth, being fulfilled with the basic necessities for life and living, is the planet in which our lives exist. It has been abundant in natural resources. Through centuries it has been satisfying our needs via various ways. Water, air, food and soil being some of the most important ones, it has assured the presence of life.
However, in the last few decades, there has been a constant decrease in the availability and adequacy of these resources.
Undiscriminated use of air, water, soil, flora and fauna by us humans have resulted in swift declining of the natural resources.
This was noticed all those decades ago and the idea of remarking a specific day of the year as the Earth day was considered.
Around the fall of 1969, the idea of celebrating it annually was proposed by Gaylord Nelson. On April, 22nd of the year 1970 it was celebrated for the first time. It was marked and has been mentioned all across the world ever since.
The main prospect of Earth day was to spread awareness of the continuous deprivation of the Earthly resources and of the planet Earth itself. So that its conservation is taken into consideration.
The importance of our planet and how necessary is its protection is clearly displayed in our everyday lives that without the Earth, there wouldn't be any human life or any life, for that matter.
Remarking a day as a special part of the year is like a continuous reminder of how we all can try and save the very planet we all live in by just a simple act of concern and care towards the environment.
Along with it, this day is also a reminder of promoting the environmental awareness, by applying the mantra of reduce, reuse and recycle and by various other simple efforts by each individual can be a major upliftment towards the Earth.
On an important note; 22nd of April, 2020, celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of the Earth day all across the world.
