Sam's Pov (3 years later)
I was sitting at my desk when a pupil walked up to me. I looked up, giving a smile to Devon, as he stood there with his hands behind his back, looking shy as ever.
"Hey, Devon, what you got there?" I asked, leaning forward. He looks down embarrassed and pulls out a piece of paper.
"I uhm, I drew this for you, Miss." He mumbles in the cutest voice making me coo on the inside. I took it from him smiling widely.
"Oh, it's beautiful, Devon. And you used all your colours, I'm so proud of you!" I say, letting my finger go across his art. He drew a picture of our class, with me right in the middle. And everyone's names on it as well.
"Yeah! I made you wear purple, Miss, you always look nice in purple, it's my sister's favourite colour too." He voiced out, a smile spreading across his face. He's so adorable. And one of the nicest kids in my class.
"Thank you, Devon, I love this very much. I'm gonna take it home and hang it up on my wall okay?" He yelled out in excitement, pumping his fist into the air.
"Okay, Miss!" With that, he turns and runs off to his friend. I smiled to myself. He's really good for a 6-year-old. I kept it neatly in my file before approaching the class and checking on their classwork. I dismissed them after a while, hugging all of them and walking with them to the gate. I do this every day to make sure they were safe as the other teachers had to take care of the younger ones. I bid goodbye to Devon when his mum picked him up as he was the last one today.
I got back to my room to pack up and say goodbye to the rest of the teachers before walking out. I had to pick up some food before going home since Avery wanted some chicken wings and fried rice. It's been a while since we got Chinese.
It's getting so cold as December is nearing. We've been just planning on having Christmas in our place this year. We're gonna buy a tree next week, and we just bought a new table so we can get people to come over.
"Hello, what can get you?" The girl at the cashier asked me as I walked over to her. I proceeded to order some food and got some chicken wings, fried rice, Japanese tofu, and some fried baby kailan.
I texted Avery saying I was on the way home with food. The food was done in 20 minutes and then I was out and walking back to my car. I placed all the stuff in the back seat in this box I had so the food wouldn't spill and walked to the other side to sit.
I stood there frozen as I saw a little basket sitting just outside my door. What the fuck?! It was covered with a blanket and on it a note. I crouched down and peeked into it, my heart stilling. It was a baby puppy, it's so small. It has light brown fur looking like a small husky. Did someone leave it here?
I took the note and read it.
Hello, I'm sorry but I had to leave him with you. I know you can care for him in ways I can't. He doesn't have a name yet. Please keep him, I know this is so sudden, but you were the only one I came across. Please, he's my little baby. I love him so very much, he deserves a beautiful home. If you can't please, give him to someone who would. Please. I'm so sorry and thank you. Take care of my little Prince for me.
My mouth was clogged with emotion as I read that letter. I let my finger brush his head a little, oh, he's so precious.
"I'm gonna take care of you, puppy," I said before folding the note and putting it in my pocket and carrying his basket and getting into my car. I placed it on the seat and secured him with the belt, making sure he got some air but not the sun in his face. I see him snuggle a little making my heart burst.
"What am I gonna tell Avery?" I whisper to myself as I drove off. We got a dog, a puppy. I smiled to myself. I've been wanting one for so long.
