The cafeteria was filled with noises of students chatting and silverware hitting the food tray.
Today the cafeteria seemed more abuzz with chatter. I suppose it seems right since the big dance and football game is this weekend. Still, I find it annoying to listen to everyone as I try to read my book.
I come to the cafeteria to read, I don't even bother eating school lunch. It looks disgusting and I'm pretty sure they put poison in it because there is no way that some of the food they make is actually edible.
I close my book and place it on the table. I can't concentrate with all the noise so why bother trying to read?
To pass the time, I look around the room, another one of my favorite pastimes. I like to watch people act fake. They put on a mask so they can be popular or seem normal.
I guess that's why people don't like me. I don't really care about what they think of me, so I act the same and treat everyone the same. A lot of people don't really appreciate that characteristic, so they avoid me. Not that I care, I dont really feel like hanging around fake people anyway.
My eyes land on the football team's table. It was swarming with girls, obviously, because who wouldn't want a popular jock to take them to the dance.
It's a tradition for the football team to ask the girl they want to take to the dance during halftime. Most of them ask their date before then so they can color coordinate, but the girl will still act overly surprised when he asks at halftime.
All of the girls are probably over there to manipulate the players to take them. But it's obvious that the jock will take a popular girl.
But those girls are wasting their time because Victor Stone will most likely take Karen, who I actually like. Wally West will probably ask Jenny (aka Jinx), who surprisingly isn't popular at all and is more like me. Garfield Logan has already asked Tara, who's a bitch, so he'll just ask her again at halftime. And finally, the most popular jock of all, Richard Grayson.
Him I'm not entirely sure about. He gives a lot of girls mixed messages, even me. He actually seems to like me, which is weird because a lot of guys don't like brutally honest women. But, anyway, I think he'll ask Kori during halftime, honestly the whole school is betting on it.
The bell rings, ending lunch, so I get up and grab the items that I brought with me and make my way to my locker.
I open my locker and place my book in my locker and grab my binder and textbook for my next class.
I look down the hall to see a mob of jocks and girls heading to their lockers.
What surprised me was Richard Grayson stopping and leaning on the locker next to mine, not his by the way.
His friends stopped and looked at him with surprised looks.
"Go ahead guys, I've got to ask Rachel for her help."
"What could you possibly need her help with?" Asked Victor.
"I need a tutor for my foreign language class, we have the same class together so she knows what's going on in there."
"Dude, you're the only one of us who has straight As. Why would need a tutor." Asked Garfield.
"Because I almost have an A- and we all know Bruce won't allow that."
They all mumble in agreement, probably not wanting to lose their star player. Slowly they move on to get ready for their next class.
I continue to organize my stuff, waiting for Richard to really ask me what he needs.
