Ty's PoV

My name is Tyler, but most people call me Ty. Today, it's my birthday.

I gaze at the present my father has left for me on my desk. It's wrapped in a sleek purple wrapping paper, with a yellow bow. I excitedly rip the wrapping paper to reveal my gift.

It's a brand new obsidian sword, no doubt extremely expensive. I also received a strange-looking gold amulet with a purple amethyst embedded in the centre.

I smile and slip the amulet over my head, and examine the sword. Pure obsidian, with a leather handle. I walk outside, maybe to go to a pond and find some squids to try it on.

Then, the bong! Of the bell signalling the return of the soldiers came to my ears.

You see, most people of this village are part of the army against the squids. The squids have been trying their hand at world domination, and our organization is the only thing in their way. So, we set a trap, built the village, and waited patiently. For about 6 months, but that's not important. We were successful, and the scouts saw squids coming in large numbers to the surface with our scouts earlier, and reinforcements were quickly dispatched.

I see my father in the front, his diamond sword in one hand, and a large sack in the other, slung over his shoulder.

Hey dad!" I yell. "What's in the bag?"

"Uh,"he stammers. "It's none of your business son. Get into the house."

"But-"

"GO!" He yells.

I nod my head and walk back into the house.

'Jeez... What's in that bag that's so important?' I thought.

I ran swiftly out the back door, with my brand new amulet bouncing against my chest, and follow my father to the science
building at the edge of town. I crept over to the window and hid in the green shrubbery under it.

"Astounding! I've never seen something quite like it!" I hear Mr. Miles, our main scientist exclaim.
"It can breath on land just fine!"

"I personally think we should just let it go," I hear my father say. "Who knows, it could carry some disease or infection."

"Oh don't be such a downer, Charles! This is practically the discovery of the year! Just think, we could program it to sneak in the squid base!" Said Mr.Miles. "Or maybe, even experiment on it, test its limits!"

I take a chance, and peek over the window sill.

My dad still doesn't look convinced, but even so, he dumps the contents of the bag onto a table, and I gasp when I get a glance of what it is.

A boy had been sprawled on the table. But this was obviously not an ordinary boy. Parts of his skin was a stunning cobalt blue, and had four tentacles protruding from his back. As far as I could tell, he wore a gray shirt and black pants.

"I'm still not sure." My father says.

"Psshh, you never are. This will be perfectly safe. We'll strap him to the table, and start tomorrow." Said Mr.Miles.

I duck down, and sneak to the closest house. Once out of sight of the science building, I sprinted all the way to Jason's house, and knocked fiercely.

The door swings open, and then:
"What's up dude?" Says the boy who answers. He's wearing a blue spacesuit, and I can see a matching helmet with an orange visor on a table not far off. He has bright brown windswept hair, and blue eyes.

"Jason, we need to talk." I said as I stepped inside his house and slammed the door.

"Whoa, chill. What happened? Is your dad hurt?" He asked.
