⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀One Step Closer

calum pov

"Thank you," I smiled at the (person at the) cashier as she grins widely and passes me my latte.

I settled at the corner of the cafe and stared out of the window.

The pavements were covered with squabbling, pecking pigeons. They were fighting over the smallest speck of what may, or may not even be food. Children ran at them, squealing as they scrambled off into the air, leaving their food behind.

The noise from the traffic invades my thoughts. Lorries making deliveries, clattering and banging as the drivers empty their cargo without a care.

The street seems to be getting busier. More people, carrying more bags, spending more money. Arguing with their partners loudly as the stress gets to the most patient of people.

"Calum?" I heard a familiar voice called out.

I turned my head and saw Bethany. I widened my eyes. It was really her. She was wearing a black sweater and blue jeans- and of course, a bow on her head. She held a latte (which was same as mine oh) on her hand.

Seeing her reminded me that I didn't called her back after 1 year. Fuck.

Did she came her alone? I tilted my head so I could see if she came her alone.

No one.

"I came here alone, you twat." She blurted.

"Uh, hi." I realized I haven't greeted her.

She put her latte on the table and sat down on the seat. I frowned.

"I didn't say you could sit here."

Beth raised her eyebrow. "I do what I want thanks."

"Tell that to the police when you rob a bank, and you go to jail." I laughed half-heartedly.

I never really wanted to face her again. I broke the promise. I knew how much I meant to her and I'm just being such a dick towards her. How can I be so forgetful?

No girl deserves to be ignored.

"Sorry."

"For?"

"I'm sorry I didn't call you back." I bit my lip.

She rolled her eyes. "That was 2 years ago. Now, you're apologizing?"

Better late than never, Beth.

"I said I'm sorry."

She covered her face with her hands. "Nevermind. Let's not talk about that."

Bless. Honestly, I wouldn't know what to explain to her.

"So, how's life?" I popped a question. Beth put down her hands.

"Great."

.

.

"Oh my god, did you remember when we plugged out the wifi when Michael was playing LoL?" Beth laughs as we walked out of the cafe.

I laughed along remembering vividly of Michael's reaction.

"I was this fucking close to beating the boss!" Michael had shouted, waving his arms frustratedly in the air. "Fuck you two."

"It wasn't really me though. It was all you." I defended myself. "Plus, he got really mad after that." She nudged my arm.

"Loser."

I miss this. I missed laughing with Beth. I missed doing pranks with her. I missed her terrible jokes. I missed her. Well yeah, you get it.

"I miss you." The words accidentally came out of my mouth. I feel my cheeks heat and I immediately turned my head away. She giggles, obviously noticed I blushed.

"I missed you too, Hood."
