Dawnsky's Hope

Chapter 3

 (I haven't been updating because I needed some sleep, will try to get back to those daily updates!)

     Dawnpaw padded behind her patrol near the Tornadoclan border, sniffing the air. In front of her, Thrushflight, Firestone, and Wish, were discussing the gathering that was to take place that night.

      I can't wait! My very first gathering! She thought happily. Then she nearly rammed Wish, who had suddenly stopped, ears flicking and eyes wary. "What is it?" She asked quietly. The other cats had also noticed something was wrong.

      The she-cat murmured something inaudible, then suddenly hissed, fur bushing, as she stared into the bushes on their side of the border. Then they saw it, a huge dog, a low growl coming from it's throat, burst through the bushes, taking Firestone by surprise.

        It sank it's teeth into his shoulder and then the patrol was on it, hissing and clawing. Dawnpaw yowled and jumped right onto it's head biting it's ears while pummeling it with her hind legs.

        The dog howled, twisting around so fast that Dawnpaw was flung into a bush. She struggled to her feet, groggily making her way bake to be fight. When she got out there, she noticed Firestone limping off to the edge, shoulder bleeding heavily.

        Sh ran up to him. "Go back to camp! We need help!" She hissed. He nodded grimly and began running in the direction of camp. Dawnpaw turned back to the fight. Wish was coming to the dog's hind leg and she had a bite mark on her side.

       Thrushflight was on the dog's shoulders, clawing it's eyes. His tail had a bad bite in it. The dog looked nowhere near about to give up. Dawnpaw yowled angrily and leaped at the beast, slicing it's nose.

          It yelped, bucked Thrushflight off, and shook Wish off. Now all three cat circled it, dashing in and out. Dawnpaw saw a good chance to bite it's neck, because it was distracted going after Thushflight,who was desperately dodging it.

        Dawnpaw ran in, grabbing it's neck and biting it as hard as she could. The dog howled, turning and snapping it's Jaws. She felt a sudden hot pain shoot up her leg, and the dog ripped her off of it by her paw, and began shaking her.

        Just as black spots were starting to form on her vision, she heard a battle cry, several yelps and growls, then she was dropped to the ground as the dog thundered away. Dawnpaw looked up to see Nightbreeze, Hawkclaw, Greystar, Mousefang, and Twigsnap.

       "Grab her!" Greystar hissed. Dawnpaw yelped a bit when Mousefang and Nightbreeze picked her up, the patrol returned to camp, leaving Hawkclaw, Twigsnap, and Thrushflight to make sure the dog was gone. 

       Dawnpaw found herself in the medicine den with one of the medicine cats, Cindertail. "How are you doing? Your paw got bit pretty bad there." The she-cat mewed softly. Dawnpaw sat up, fully aware of the bite in her hind paw.

       "Are the others on the patrol okay?" She asked anxiously. Looking around she noticed Wish, the brave calico warrior, laying in a nest next to her, eyes slitted. Dawnpaw looked back at Cindertail as she spoke.

        "You were lucky. The dog could've killed you. Wish got bit pretty bad on the side, so you're both off duty for two days. What? Whatever, I finally get a chance to be lazy, Dawnpaw thought as she sank back into her nest and drifted off to sleep as Cindertail applied soothing herbs to her paw.
