BOOK 2 OF THE ABSOLUTION...
I'm surrounded by darkness, but I hear voices all around me.
"I've never done this before!"
"It doesn't matter, go get your supplies. She's barely hanging on!"
"I-I don't know –"
"Just go, damn it!"
And then I see Rumlow.
"It's a shame really. HYDRA had big plans for you," he says through labored breaths.
"Go-go to hell." I choke out, my eyes following Rumlow's movements.
"Oh, I already know I'm going there, but it looks like you'll get there first." Rumlow replies mockingly before plunging his knife back into me again.
A blood-curdling scream escapes my mouth as I feel something cold dig into my abdomen. Tearing my eyes open, the first thing I see is a bright, white light that burns my eyes.
It feels like I've just come up for a breath of fresh air after being submerged in water all this time.
I see something move in the corner of my vision and look down to see Jemma's hands inside of my abdomen.
"What the fuck!" I screech as I try to push myself off the table I'm lying on.
"Someone hold her down! There's a lot of internal damage, I – I need more sutures and a suction." Jemma yells, her eyes trained on my stab wounds.
"Where do you think you're going?" I hear someone ask before pushing me back down.
I see lose strands of brown hair enter my vision. Then I'm met with a pair of ice blue eyes.
Bucky.
"I'm getting," I start off, pinching my mouth together as white, hot searing pain spreads through my lower abdomen again, "the fuck out of here."
I slam my head against the metal table as a wave of dizziness hits me. I pinch my eyes shut as a piercing cry leaves my mouth.
The pain is unbearable. It's invading every crevice of my mind.
"Please kill me," I mumble, tears sliding down my face as I wait for someone to put me out of my misery.
"Everyone out. Now!" I hear someone yell.
They're not listening.
I tear open my eyes to look at the light above me. It's blurry now. I can feel the energy gradually leaving my body.
Everything is slowing down, becoming quiet. The only thing that's constant is the fiery, burning sensation from my wounds.
"We're doing it, Phil! It worked on you, we have to try it on her!" Another voice says urgently. It sounds further away – almost as if they're underwater.
"Melinda, no!" Another voice replies.
"Yes we are. Try and stop me, Phil."
"We're losing her!" Someone interrupts.
"Chen, stay with me!"
I feel someone shaking me. I try to open my eyes, but it's hard to gather the energy to do so. With my eyes closed, I scowl at whoever is shaking me.
"Leave me alone," I mumble.
"Chen, come on! Stay with me!" The voice urges, gently shaking me again.
I force myself to open my eyes, my vision slightly blurry around the corners.
Coulson is peering over me, his mouth set in a straight line. He looks up for a moment, his mouth moving, but I can't understand him. It feels like I'm underwater.
He looks down at me again, "you're going to be fine, Chen. You're going to Tahiti."
I wordlessly look at him as I vaguely feel something pierce my forearm. The pain is nothing compared to what I'm feeling from my abdomen.
My vision turns cloudy, until everything becomes a white blur.
The voices around me slowly disappear. It feels as thought I'm underwater again. Slowly floating away into the abyss. Then, my vision is finally overcome with complete darkness.
The pain, the light, the voices – they're all gone.
