Charles POV:
I was styling my hair to the left side of my face for work like I always do. I was almost done when my phone lit up. It was a text from my boss on the work chat. "Work chat" what a stupid idea, when I leave work I want to be done. I looked at the text, "emergency meeting at 4:30". I looked at the time. 4:00, my shift started at 5:00. I got all my stuff together and left. As I drove I thought about what the emergency was. My boss doesn't have the same definition of "emergency". Last time there was an "emergency meeting" my boss just wanted to say that we would have emergency meetings from time to time. When I arrived I went to the break room and leaned against a wall. Complete silence. That was because my boss wasn't here yet. I could tell no one wanted to be there. Even during our shift no one wanted to be there. After a few more moments of silence, my boss walked in with his usual dopey smile, well a fake dopey smile. He was overly nice and you could tell it wasn't sincere. There was someone with him. A small skinny boy with ginger hair and circular wire glasses. I could feel my face get hot and a quick flutter in my stomach. "No." I thought "he is just another employee." I knew that wasn't true. He definitely wasn't one of us he still had life in his timid eyes. He looked really scared. I don't blame him, no one here ever smiles except when talking to costumers ( I work at a grocery store by the way) and some of us didn't even smile then. We all looked like cold blooded sharks. Almost everyone was pretty chill, as long as you don't have personal conversations with them. My boss began speaking "The reason I called this meeting was to introduce a new employee." He said gesturing to the ginger " This is Samuel Seabury!" "Um, hi." Sam said so quiet I could barely hear him. No ones expression changed. I looked through the window to the store I could see my reflection. Was I. Blushing? "Who would like to show Samuel around?" My boss asked optimistically. Everyone just grunted and looked at the ground. Samuel looked at the ground shyly. Before I knew what was happening, my hand thrusted in the air " I'll do it!" I said. What was I doing? "Great!" Said my boss I still didn't know what was happening "Come here Lee! Everyone else is dismissed."
