"What are you thinking about?" Honora jumped as Cedric hugged her from behind. ". .Nothing." She sighed and turned around to him. Honora felt a knot in her stomach as soon as she turned to face her boyfriend, who looked down to her with the same comforting smile as always but unlike other times, it didn't comfort her.
"Come on Honora. You can tell me." She hesitated for a moment, looking up into his eyes. She knew he saw right through her, but her secret was bigger than the competition, than anything going on at Hogwarts. Honora bit her lip as she pondered what to say next. "It's just. . I'm worried."
"What are you worried about?"
She didn't know exactly what to say to him, she wanted to tell him the truth, the reason she had come to Hogwarts, but she couldn't. Honora didn't want him to know quite frankly, she couldn't possibly bear the looks from the only person who ever loved her after he finding out she was to be a Death Eater. How could she? Cedric was the sweetest most caring person she'd ever met and that wasn't an understatement. How could she come to tell him Dumbledore's plans, her own plans, not only with the judgement she'd receive but also without getting herself killed?
"You were at the Quidditch World Cup?" He nodded. "Something happened. .and I believe it's happened again." She bit her lip once more. He would understand what she meant, even if she was vague, right? How could he not?
"Dad and I had to leave early because of the Death Eater attack. Is that what you mean?"
"Yeah I suppose." She frowned to herself. "I don't know if I should say." She lowered her voice. He was good. Cedric was more than good – great even. Always optimistic. Of course he wouldn't think the worst of her, of anyone, even of the world. Because it wasn't in his nature.
"Hon, whatever it is, you can tell me."
"Let's go somewhere-" she looked around the courtyard which had started crowding with students since springtime was arriving. "–More private."
Cedric lead her down to the lake shore, where they often had lunch and picnics. It was quiet most of the time since students created the rumor of the Black Lake monster, which Cedric and Honora found not to be true. Or if it had the monster seemed to stay away from them.
"Someone was killed." She said after a few more moments of thinking.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean someone was murdered. Here at Hogwarts."
"Who was it?"
"Barty Crouch."
"From the ministry?"
Honora nodded her head, biting her lip and looking out to the lake. Cedric watched her, trying to think of the best thing to say, she was obviously distraught and he wanted to appease her. "Don't worry about it, I'm sure Dumbledore has it under control." She shook her head and looked back up to him with doey eyes that seemed filled with fear. "He doesn't. . I mean if they can kill on the grounds and someone that far up in the ministry. ."
