******flashback******
I pull back from the hug, wiping my eyes.
"Joelle... do you understand what's happening?" Mrs. Baxter pipes in.
I shrug. "Kind of."
Mrs. Baxter leads me over to the tv, and we stand in front and watch.
"A disease. Something has gotten out." Mrs. Baxter starts. "And, there's no cure to it." She says, shaking her head. "But this disease. It.. makes people... rise from the dead."
I look at her, my chest pounding. "What?"
"Like you've probably heard of in movies.... it turns people into well, zombies." Mrs. Baxter finishes.
I turn around, looking out the window as an ambulance goes racing by. I put my hands over my face, looking over to promise and Mrs. Baxter. I shake my head.
And with that, the TV flicks off, along with all the lights.
"Don't freak girls, it's ok." Mrs. Baxter reassures us. I watch her go into the kitchen, grabbing out a candle and a box of matches. She swipes the match against the box, lighting the wick of the candle. She then places the candle on the counter.
"Promise, you and joey run upstairs and get some blankets, I'll make a fire." Mrs. Baxter says. I watch her grab the matches and walk to the fireplace, fixing the wood. Me and promise turn around, running upstairs. We walk into her room, and we open the closet doors, pulling out around ten blankets. Suddenly I feel promises arms wrap around me.
"I'm so sorry jo." Promise whispers.
"It's not your fault."
"I know."
And with that, promise releases me from the hug, and we both head back downstairs.
